shark repellent

so, late last night i switched programs and can across a shark program. here a guy by the name Graig O'Connell was investigating an alternative to shark nets and preventing shark attacks. he made a barrier of pvc pipes, something like a forest of kelp. each pipe floated and must of had magnets spaced out along its length. the spacing or quantity of magents i still have to determine but what i saw was incredible, Graig himself, dived into this barrier with a hand full of bull sharks on the hunt at night. the sharks did not cross the barrier.
there are loads of info on the net and i just cant understand why us kayakers havent implemented this simple and very effective discovery to prevent sharks from coming close or toothing a kayak or kayaker, even surfers for that matter. my thoughts at this stage is to insert a few small strong type magnets in the kayak, spaced out every half a meter or so to creat a magnetic field. these magnets are to be glued so that they dont move about when handling the kayak.
so, tell us, what are your thoughts?

btw, here is a wiki link to wet your thoughts: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_shark_repellent

don't see it working in the Cape , great whites are ambush predators that attack at speed by the time he is in contact with the field he's going at 50km/h nothings going to stop him .

only saw the end of a program called "why sharks attack" on nat geo wild (channel 182). here they tested different deterrents, the electric field (the ones we fimiliar with), flickering lights (white led lights) and the most interesting "white and black stripes". these barred pattern seem to do the trick because it is a natural deterrent found in other animals like snakes and also because sharks are colour blind.
all the above stopped the various sharks species interest in the bait box, sorry i didnt get the scientist name but with another scheduled show tomorrow about 10:30, hope i can catch it.

My mate has kelp stripes he paints on his surfboards..Sea snake stripes..whatever..

But then don't be like that kayaker in the states who painted kelp stripes on his yum yum yellow kayak, and so made himself into a highly visible chevron and got torpedoed. Contrast also attracts sharks..So yeah? A couple of neodymium magnets might make me feel better, but is that torpedo going to care?!

Don't kayak or surf off plett, that's all I have to say..GW's are not in short supply, they have just moved east a little, following their food supply. Also in false bay I see them with a different attitude, more laid back..Up the east coast they are in feeding mode, it is obvious to an observer. Even close to PE we have had them scoping us out on the rocks. Not small guys either..
