Its a nice rod. With the guide layout it really puts a nice curve in the tip section which lends itself to the action of these HMG rods. Im fairly jealous its not for myself...:(

Keeping the line tracking closely to the blank's curvature under load makes just about any rod feel and cast better.
You can over do it, but in general a guide or two or three sometimes, over what is considered "normal" often improves the static loading and hence dynamic loading of a blank.
Costs a bit more, takes longer to build, but to my mind worthwhile.

Yes. Agreed.
This rod took an extra guide or two i think in the tip section. It really makes a difference. Under load you can definitely feel the tip working more if that makes sense.
Im so hoping a millionaire gives me carte Blanche on a rod....can you imagine what you can build....:)

Hi Pylstert.

I think they do definitely.

Probably not how you would expect.

If you watch your line come off the reel it coming off in waves (sine).
The anti tangle properties basically are allowing you to fit more guides to the rod. This is the main benefit. That in turn allows your line to stay clear of the blank allowing more usage of the blank and keeping the curvature true to the blank. Having more contact points with the line running through the guides it reduces line deterioration. Tracks the line better which in turn results in better casting. Etc etc....these are actual observations ive made. The other builders could elaborate more too. I definitely find them advantageous. For me the biggest thing isnt the casting benefits but the fact used in the KR or modified layout really makes the blank perform st its best utilising all the available loading stored in the rod.

Im not great at explaining. I know you have asked this before. I hope it kinda answers some of the questions you have.

Many thanks for the comments!

That's good to know, I have made a point of observing the line going through the eyes and from what I have heard it is one of the reasons our local multiplier rods have the big flip up guides. Tachleoholic redid my two spinning rods and the change to better spaced and more, smaller eyes was dramatic. Probably explains why the Exage 110 is such a brilliant rod, it has smaller and more eyes than the traditional SA surf rod. The smaller eyes probably help to speed he action up as well? I am now wondering what a Blade ditching all those clunky big flip ups and 16mm eyes and using low riders up to 12mm in their place? Hmmmmmm

Flip-Up guides should all be shot at dawn with blunt pistols.

Older Exage's were cool, new ones that are BUILT ON THE SAME BLANKS as the old models and now come with flip up guides.... hmmmpf.
Go on, ask my what size running guides I use on my 12' DC 2-5 that is paired with an Ultegra 14000XSC...
20/16/12/10/8/8/8/8 & 8 tip top. And that is for a Vaalie style high reel seat set up with the reel at 580mm from the butt.
