Seadoo impella wear casing

Hi
Am new to the PWC fraternity and bought a Seadoo 155 in December. I must say it is proving to be an incredible way to fish and certainly be my sport of choice going into the future. Having said that I am having endless troubles with my Ski specifically around the Impeller and wear casing. While I understand that surf launching leads to wear , I have had two incidence whereby the Jet ski momentarily touch sand bank while under throttle and in mere seconds the wear casing is worn and immediately no power.
Seems illogical that a machine worth that much is held to ransom by a weak ring of plastic, which in effect can render the boat useless at the smallest contact with sand?

Is this quick wearing a normal state of affairs and if so can you buy wear rings by the 6 pack ?
:?

Get hold of Pierre at Racetech, If memory serves me correctly there is a stainless steel replacement that the guys are using. Or contact Mick Clarke (the Cod Father in GoFish magazine) I think he had his done.

You must have really pumped a lot of coarse grit through your machine under heavy load to cause such instant wear!I have a 2006 Seadoo GTI 130 currently with 235hrs on clock.I am onto my second wear ring, and I don't believe that it was even necessary to replace it as the boat was not cavitating.I was 'advised' that it needed replacing by a dealer with a big calculator.I got 150hrs out of my original wear ring, also plastic, and would estimate about 30 launches/beachings in this time. You just have to be careful where and when you open up the throttle.

Hi Whizski,

As per Ancient Mariner, the wear ring should not wear past its parameter in just two or even much more launches. I was told when I bought my Seadoo in 2006 that on acceleration it can suck water (and sand, stone & other debris) from a depth of 1,8m below. For that reason I always tried to idle as deep into the surf as I safely could. Once on the plane it does not suck water that deep. Guys on the PWC forums reckons 180mm or so.

I still do not know whether they Yammies with the stainless steel wear ring is better?

My wear ring needs to be replaced after 2-3 fishing trips... (by fishing trip, I mean a 2 week holiday in Mozambique with multiple launches)...

I replace my wear ring myself... the cost of the ring is R750... divided by 2 (worse case) it's R375 per holiday that I need to budged to replace wear ring...

In freshwater, the ring lasts for years...

I used to buy from Malcolm who used to be the SBT distributor in South Africa...

He since moved to Mauritius...

So I'm not sure if there still is a SBT distributor in SA.

If not, then you'll have to buy from the SEADOO agents, but take some Vaseline with when you go and buy one !!!

If you have time, then order a SBT one from Ebay... But that could take 6-10 weeks for delivery.

It might even be cheaper to buy an original from greenhulk.com (if you take the shipping charges into consideration).

I have successfully fitted a Stainless Steel wear ring to my Sea Doo GTI155...Much better than the plastic one. I also fitted an Solas Impeller at the same time.

@Codfather,who sells the stainless steel wear ring and Solas impeller locally,or do you have to import? Also,is the pitch any different from stock, and is there a noticable improvement in performance of ski,as well as longevity of these parts?

I can supply them .......If you have a good standard impeller you can use it no problem.  The impeller is just rebuilt to match the new Stainless wear Ring. If you change to a Solas Impeller you can choose the pitch you require. Personally I want a faster take off (more torque) bottom end and loose a bit on top end. .....You will probably never open up to full throttle on the sea? Really impressed with the stainless wear ring. Here's some good information https://www.impellers.com/sea-doo-impeller.html

Thanks for the link, they have some interesting jetski bling on their site.My ski is a 2006 GTI 130 4 tec.I was thinking along the lines of : (KIT Solas SR-CD-10/18 Concord Sea Doo impeller 130 GTI/GTS, 155GTI).I find my ski runs out of legs at top end.Yes,on the ocean it is hardly ever possible to open a jetski up fully. What would the price be for an impeller and SS wear ring?

Wear ring R2000 Impeller R5500 Concord 10/18 I thought the same.
Ok,I will hold back on the impeller,as I believe I can still squeeze a few NM out of my original. The SS wear ring seems to come at a fair price. What is the cost of a normal wear ring,as a comparison?

R850 .....Either way you build up or grind down the impeller.....I wouldntchange a good impeller either, only if iys bent or badly damaged....Just look in the intake grate with a torch.......Tip for all Sea Doo owners ...Lift up the rubber drive shaft boot inside the hull and spray the drive shaft as they rust badly..Also spray the shaft with salt away from the intake grate.

I think I will just replace my wear ring for now with the original standard part.Do you ship to JHB?Thanks for the tip regarding the drive shaft, there is a definate need for some anti-rust spray in that vicinity.

Hi Mick... The wear ring for R850, what brand is it ? SBT ?

Who is the new SA SBT distributor now that Malcom has left ?

Thanks

Standard size ....... If the impeller is really bad it can be built up. Usually its just the wear ring worn. Courier to your house or business R100 not a postbox.
