Name required for boat fishing equipment

Hi Gents

I see most commercial boats make use of a aluminium pole with a U welded to the top of it, placed into the verticle gunnel rod holders to assist the angler to bring up bigger fish swimming straight down.

Please assist with the name of these fishing rod assists and where one can purchase them.

If they are not sold commerically, i guess i'll have to get a few made up

I'm starting to get annoyed with my crew because when bigger fish take their lines they make use of my boats gunnels to hold the rods and put pressure on the fish.

It fits into your upright rod holders in your gunnel.

when fighting a fish you rest the rod on the top of it.

This helps take the strain off your back, puts more pressure on the fish and saves your boats gunnels from getting all scratched

No, he is referring to a moffie rest.
Stainless tube, one diameter down from the standard rod holder size. About 50cm long with a slot in one end where it goes over the gimbal pin and a U piece welded on top that the rod can rest in.
Fits in a standard vertical rod holder with a gimbal.
Don't know the correct name and have not seen them for sale.

Used them when we used to catch sharks commercially years ago - cover them with hosepipe as graphite and stainless don't go with together!

I doudt if i go to skiport and ask them for a moffie rest if they will know what im refering to.

Ok so after going into one of the facebook fishing sites and mentioning "Moffie stick" i was quickly corrected and given the correct name.

Its a cheat stick ;)

Didn't that one guy nearly die when falling on one when the marlin attacked their boat. Deboned his ribs.

Maybe your crew should take up ballet? ;)

We've been doing pretty well, on the spots i have. Still waiting for your email Oom Bennie:)

Did you see the bottom fish caught during the SADSAA nationals held over 5 days at DSBC?
