Hi,my friends and i have been fishing struben dam from last year, but only manage to catch mabe 1-2 fish per session, sometimes even blanking...

Any advice on what consistency works at the dam?

Hi there !

Me and a friend went this past weekend.

He caught two small carp on papgooi just of the jetty using bunspice floats and super sweet dough backing.

I tried specimen, two sweet corn tigers with one fake corn on top on an inline rig with bomb on the lead, but not even a run :(

Spots are important I guess , No.1, 6 and 7 producing the most fish while we were there.

Ive read on other forums that sweet and bright is the way to go, fishing as close to structure as possible(particularly the jetty and the reeds near the inlet).

I just don't think that the dam holds that many fish as we didn't see a lot of activity.

I also read that there was a sewage leak a few years ago that killed a lot of fish ?

The dam also receives a lot of pressure because of it being close and free, especially during the holidays.

Hope this little advice helps.

Kind regards

For me its easy dam, only blanked once when they where spawning. Never caught much small fish, smallest I caught was around 2kg so you not going to catch 20fish a day. I average 3-6 fish for the day there. But fish dont bite after 12 really so you must give all the effort in the morning.

The specimen guys prefer spot 7, to get a fish out when you catch it at spot 7 is not that easy.

Easiest spot to get fish is spot 4. Short rods and cast 15-20m just meter or two away from reeds just before the outflow. Always fish there, but also when you get them the fun starts to keep them out the reeds.
I just gooi pap with garlic floats, then again I use garlic floats every place I fish.
Weekends and holidays, good luck getting a spot. If you want spot 7. or even spot 5 and 6 where you can cast àlmost to 100m, then you have to go sit outside the gate from about 4am.

Hi gents, use to fish there many years ago prior to the sewage leak. The sewage leak decimated to carp population so they venue lost alot of the bigger fish. Had pics which i took of alteast 50 fish floating around dead. There use be be 10's and 12's which came out frequently.

From what i remember pineapple/peach, white choc and tuna boilies use to work.

Not sure if this info helps!!!

Fished that dam a few times. learned specimen there years ago. Spot 6 for me on specimen. Conventional 5 or 6 but you must be able to cast to the jetty. Caught conventional the last time there. Had 10 fish for the day. But best time is during the week as line pressure is bad on weekends. Smallest was 2kg and biggest 9kg. For me anything works. But you must read the water. Check where they active. And know where to cast. Good luck.
