I am looking to buy a new set of rods. I have some entry level stuff at the moment.

Was looking at the Sensation Velocity v2 or the Shimano Vengeance Carp rods. Both in 12ft.

They cost about the same so that isn't a factor in my choice.

I want be be able to hit decent distance but also have a nice fighting rod. I dont need extreme ranges but also would like something that would allow me to push a bit.

Any experiences with these rods or recommendations?

P.S. Try not to suggest other rods im confused enough as is haha.

THANX

Hi Bossie,

I have the older v1 velocities, 13 ft rods very stiff action, needs timing to get good cast, little feel when fighting fish.
I prefer my sensation 12 ft shortrange, casts accurate and good distances and playing fish is a joy, very little hookpulls.

Thank you. I was leaning towards the Shimano anyway. Just dont want to get a rod that I cant get any decent distance on

I am a BIG fan of shimano but have never used the Vengeance rods. I know loutjie used them and loved them

I have a set of Sensation Velocity's V2 and they are really awesome rods. The build quality on them are 100% and they can cast a mile and i am not even using all the power the rod can give.

I personally think for more casting the V2 will be better. I think the Vengeance is a bit better all round rod but you will pay in distance. The V2 is a bit stiff but you can really cast it a mile.

I have seen that video of Loujie that is why I am looking at them as an option. I Have also seen the video from Sensation with Barendt casting almost 200m with the V2s. I will never need to cast that distance, not that I think I will ever be able to. I want a rod that is easy to cast and consistent. Id rather be very accurate and sacrifice some distance.

I would say even if the shimano is castable it goes better with a dingy.

and the velocity suit the conventional and casting angler better.

But why limit yourself to only this 2 rods, as there is a few more in the same price range that casts easily ?
