I'm in East London until tomorrow is the the Orient Pier open to fishing? Do you need a permit from TNPA to fish there? I read an article thats its open to the fishing fraternity... Also how safe are the spots on eastern beach towards bats cave, last I fished that spot was over 8 years ago. The beach looks a bit isolated not how I remember it.

Howzit bud ya the pier is open you just need to make sure you buy a permit. R50 at Bilimoria. Also make sure you have a valid fishing license.

The orient has been quiet of late in terms of kob and pignose. Odd silver coming out, though, as well as shad in the evenings and early mornings at the Kennaway hotel all the way along the rocks up until the pier. If you going to fish towards bats cave go in a group or you WILL get attacked. Good fishing there though I hear the silvers and blues are coming out along the flats

Thanks bru, I'm at the pier now but forgot my fishing license at home :? The lady at the office says you just need your fishing license and pay the entrance fee R8. 50 to fish. Thanks again for the advice, I was suspicious about that stretch to bats cave didn't look so safe _seal1_

I'll be going back to east london soon for work trip and will be taking my rod along. I have a 9 foot loomis platinum XH and shimano solstace 4000, I think I can cast lures up to 1.5 ounce with it. Was thinking of fishing off Orient Pier. What can I target this time of year off Orient Pier and what lures would you recommend? Also, until what time is the Orient Pier open?
