Cobra 525 Fish hatches or fuel hatches?

I just bought a (used) Cobra Cat 525. The boat has two under deck hatches running nearly the length of either side of the deck as well as a box hatch on the deck. To my mind the fuel tanks should be in the box hatch and the below deck hatch should be fish hatches. However, the boat has been rigged to take the fuel tanks in the below deck hatches. Any reason for this and how difficult (read costly) would it be to change the setup?

fuel hatches below deck on either side. Behind fuel hatch is a smaller hatch on either side as well, which i use as a fish hatch for smaller bottoms like slinger ect ect.

The movable hatch on deck is meant to be used as a fish hatch for larger fish. Bungs are placed in the movable hatch for cleaning purposes.

I dont use mine as a fish hatch, but rather for storage space for my life jackets and food ect ect.

What id suggest you buy is a fish cooler bag, it works very well.

I would keep the fuel below deck as it is, all that weight below deck lowers your center of gravity and the boat will sit nicer in the water at rest. Even though it is a cat I still think its better.

A1ex, why will the boat sit nicer at rest?

The boat will sit nicer at rest or on the drift, because of your lower CG your boat will be less prone to rolling action caused by waves/chop rolling under you and also be less sensitive to the shifting of onboard weights such as people from one side to the other.

This is a Cat though so it will obviously be less sensitive than a mono would.
