Morning

Yes thanks i did read and thats what got me interested but it is strange that nobody in Mosselbay or George stocks these rods.
Hence my request for reviews.

Hi Eugene. What I've noticed in George/Mosselbay is that most of the tackle shop owners are either sponsored by a specific brand or supported by one. So most of them will only try and sell one brand to you because they get something out of it probably. It's Assassin and Penn most of the times, and they rarely stock any good rods from other brands. And their prices are pretty rediculous as well.

But getting back to the rod, I've had a good feel of the 11ft 1-3oz one (also looking at buying one) and it just feels like a better quality product when comparing it to some of the other rods in that price range. The 12ft XH that you're looking at felt quite a bit heavier than the 1-3oz H version, so I don't know what you are going to use the rod for, but if you're not going to cast lures all day long it is a great rod.

Hi Jean

Ditto with the tackle shops here.

I use an exage 100 old model for spinning - the 12ft loomis argipeligo is targeting kob and steenies with a grinder and bait.

Hi Eugene

Have you tried Fishing Extreme & Outdoor in Bayview?

Speak to Eduan and he will order one for you.

I have the 10 ft for spinning..Very happy with it. Beautifully put together and price was right. I've not fished too long with it, our season yet to begin but it throws very well, in the wind with no knots and a long thickish (.7mm) leader.. Sure the 12ft will be the same. I've caught shad and small steenies on my 10ft and rod feels like it can handle far more..ja, really happy with the 10ft version so far.

Anybody out there using this rod and your reviews

Thanks

Hi Eugene,

I have two of these rods. They are awesome especially when considering the build quality and components used. The rod is equipped with Fuji K series Alconite guides so fishing with braid is easy peasy. It has good solid eva grips that feel nice in the hand. Overall, the rod is light enough but casts well. I bought it to use as carp rods which is why I bought two but also cos it can double as a spinning rod. I have used it to spin and it casts a 2oz hard bait miles but it also makes for a nice scratching rod. I fished small baits with a 3oz sinker with it. Didn't catch anything substantial with it to comment on its strength and back bone but i recall Craig Neil landed a 16-18kg ray with the earlier model.

From what I have heard, the blank is not different to what Assassin uses on its higher end spinning rods. All in all, I would highly recommend it. At the price of around R1350, its hard to beat. Assassin's closest rival is well over the R2.5k mark and a foot shorter.

Hope this helps.
