These past weekend I manage to catch 2 cobbies on the reefs in Strand. Lots of baitfish in the water.

On Friday night a Falsebay Angling club youngster was catching mullet for the competion on the Saturday, he gave me 1 and I tried it from the reefs, The next moment a smoothie picked me up and then the fight started. I managed to land and release him back safely, was about a 60cm + specimen.

Blakes do deliver the odd size cob during sunset on hightide or early morning, I personally like the reefs and haven't been on Blakes for years due to heavy 'traffic'... .

Little bit off the topic but related.

Can any1 tell us what causes the red tinge on the fins of some cob.

Hallo Ben, like u mentioned, I noticed it also recently then on gutting the one I found fish roe's inside, I felt so shit afterwards to think that the fish would have spawned in the near future. I will from now on make an effort to check if the redness got to do with the spawning.

Redness I think from blood collecting from stress after catching and from the fight? When I bleed fishes out properly, they don't have that redfin look, when I don't they do and also have also blood in the fillets.

Maybe it's like a ostrich getting "rooi haakskene" :?

Hi Envor, I don't thing its sex related. I caught a male kob 58cm last week and it also had the red tinge. Notable between the pecs was a nipple protruding for spraying of the eggs when the roe is released by the female.
