good day,

Most post offices should be able to provide, though I don't think much people pay for freshwater, only saltwater

Hi

Honestly I wont even bother to get a license and you might spend half of you time just trying to find one.

I have in all my life only been asked twice for a fishing license and that is in very popular locations.

If they by some miracle ask you for yours and you don't have they will sell you one for I think R45.

Like I said its not monitored even at popular locations never mind a place like Upington. be warned you should have nice and HOT weather between 30 and 40C

Enjoy the fishing you should be able to catch some carp, Barbel(Catfish) easy 20lb - 30lb especially at night use a small carp as bait just chop off its head and put it on a big hook, And yellow fish.

Be warned the barbel put up a decent fight and will destroy light tackle as they are dirty fighters.

Thanks guys

For a German it is a bad feeling to do something without licence or a paperwork from the government :rasta:hyst:

I hope your catfishs are good fighter, because they are so small:fst:

What kind of Lure or bait should i use?

I have small spinners and shads with me.

One of the hardest fighting fish in Afeica if you ask me. Paddletails and jigs are some of my favourite. Spinnerbaits are also up there for me.

Where exactly are you going for the Sabie river? Not really tigers but Smallscale yellowfish and largescale yellowfish but more commonly the Chisel Mouth yellowfish along with catfish and eels.
Also dependent on location there may even be rainbow and brown trout...

Yellowfish - Small spinners just below and in the streams. Flyfishing and nymphing.

Catfish - Mostly small sizes but will test you on light gear. Can be taken on any method but mostly bait as the cats down in the lowveld are not as aggressive.
Eels - bait

Also be vigilant for hippos and maybe the odd croc. Like I said...depends where exactly you fishing! The Sabie river is a little vague...

Sabie river around Sabie/Graskop area or Sabie river more towards the Kruger National Park...the latter holds Tigerfish, crocs and hippos!!!

To catch catfish : Try earthworms - this worm is very effective and for other species as well
Cricket can also be effective as well as a nice grass hopper.
If you are close to any rocky area catch a crab -
The catfish won't resist a nice fresh crab
Any fresh head of a fish will also do, I won't kill any fish for that .
I will rather set it free and try any other kind of bait

Platanna - Proper name is Spur toed frog ( picture of the Platanna )
Chicken liver - deadly bait

If you use ultra light line you are going to have a fight for your life if you hook a catfish !!

have fun !!

I stay in a Lodge near of Sabie. I found a put and take trout lake with Google.

Crocs and hippos are new for me. We don`t have it in Germany. :ifishing:
Does they live in the orange river also? Or just in the Sabie?

My flight goes on Sunday, i am so exited :D

Oh no, no little poor frog for bait. ((wideeye))

Now in my box, i have some small / medium size spinner, shads, cranks. And some hardware for bait fishing.
Maybe i can buy some frozen baitfish in the Supermarket.
I am confident :)

You wont be able to buy baitfish in the supermarkets but do get chicken livers and chicken hearts, ox liver another excellent bait and it stays on the hook well.
