So while I wait for the digging to re-gather the St lucia guide I will have to give you guys a update regarding fishing.... Ok so we made a trip down to St lucia. A quick phone call to Oom Theuns with the news, the children are coming down, please make space for us!!! As always oom Theuns said, its fine, if I need to make space in the laundry I will!!! We were only 2 again, poor old Rudi from walkerville missed out as he has home alterations due to twins on their way. Toemaar ou tjom, next time............ dalk Julie maand se kant. Weather was real good to us on this trip. The guys moving the sand are doing a sterling job!!!!! We were watching them tippers and they were queuing to off load. I had the opportunity to speak to 1 of the managers/ supervisors. from TT Marine; http://www.ttmarine.co.za/ The contract was set out very quickly by Isimangaliso, in December 2016 and go ahead was given quiet quickly with Isimangaliso wanting them to start on the 4th January 2017, everyone still on holiday by the 4th....... There is a 28 February 2017 deadline as I understand it. the World wild life fund gave money to return St lucia estuary to its former glory. the deadline was that if nothing further was done that the World wild life fund would withdraw the money promised/ given. ok so work started quite early with 2x contractors appointed to shift the sand and dump it in the ocean. the 3rd contractor, Cyclone would conclude their business and retreat from site. another thing was, is that with this contract, was that 550 000 cubes of sand is going to be moved. Isimangaliso informed the guys that they only had a certain amount "R 10 000 000 " and they wanted to know, how much sand could be moved. it basically came to 550 000 cubes. this is also coupled to the Rand/ diesel price, should diesel price rise, the amount of sand to be moved would be less, but should the diesel price fall the sand amount would increase. The super visor also stated that by the 28 May 2017 he wants to be finished with his share of sand to be moved. they will also dig out 1 meter sand beneath water level. another thing is, that the mining trucks can carry a payload of 40 tons but with sea sand being like sugar they move about 16-18 tons of sand a trip. remember, they need to remove all trees and shrubs "clearing" then they need to remove the sand. when they are removing sand beneath water level the sand will be water logged, thus the sand will need to stand to drain all excess water from it.. it later emerged from our discussion that more money was now available. the 1 contractor employs about 35 employees and he suspects that the other contractor also has the same amount of employees. he orders 23 000 lieters of diesel very 3 days the moving of the sand into the ocean is only allowed day time hours as not to disturb the wild life "turtles" at night, huhh, they breed from Oct and eggs hatch from February to april. the road to the old parking is closed off at ingwe beach. so if you wanted to walk closer, you had to go via the beach. as this is a construction site, 1 cannot walk to maphelane, well at night you can but you would need to stay there until night falls again!!! ok just a question or 2 from my side. "THIS IS MY KNOWLEDGE" We were informed, way back, many moons ago that the World wild life fund gave 10 000 000 euros, back then it was basically a R 100 000 000 yes a hundred million. if this is indeed the case, where is the other R 90 000 000, ninety million? I understand that the environment impact assessment study would consume a certain amount of money, but how much. so if anyone has more info on the specific amount given / promised by the World wild life fund, then please inform me so that this tread can be corrected. Ok enough of this, this is a fishing forum and we need to get to the fishing!!!! Last edited on Mon Feb 27th, 2017 07:00 pm by willem wikkel spies |

Right lets get it done!!! JJ got a new spinning set up, which eventually turned out to be a very lekker nice set up. JJ got himself a Sensation pro series 11 ft spinning rod 3x piece paired with Daiwa exceller 4000 grinder with some Berkley black valvet 30lb casting braid. it was also my first time using my daiwa exceller 11 ft 2 x piece spinning rod, paired with my penn clash 4000 and power pro 14lb braid. due to the fact that, the reef was not properly opening up and bigger rods already slid out, only allowed us to fish around the two bigger rods. JJ did have a go further down and up but nothing showed interest in his plug. it must be mentioned that plugs is better to use over such a exposed reef. as the plugs run on top of the water making for less lost plugs. spoons run deeper and are more likely to get lost. we fished there until about 11:00 with nothing to show apart from loosing all on a rock. on our way back from vidal to st lucia the temperature was 35 degrees. we had to get back to camp to refill our petrol tanks and to set out for a afternoon session at the swimming beach area. so we had a outing at cape vidal light house. no pulls but nice water...... problem here is the rock ledge in that you have a limited time to fish. if you wait to long and the pull comes then you are screwed as you cannot follow the fish, keeping it away from the ledge. so we had the sw wind come through which broughtt all the dirty water up. the chocolate mud water aint my cup of tea...... so the afternoon session was a no go. we also had grass and roots in the water which kept on screwing up all. so we decided on working mission rocks with lighter gear the following morning

so we went to perriers. it is about 1,5km of rock hopping south from the entrance. keep on rock hopping until you get 2x big rocks which creates 3x pools this picture is from the 2nd rock looking back at missions entrance Attachment: DSC_0140.JPG (Downloaded 1674 times)

ok, at last victory to me. it was a interesting session of lure angling. it does get the blood pumping..... its utter goose bumps stuff to retrieve a plug and keep watching about 1-2 meters behind the plug. nothing, nothing bla bla bla, then suddenly a kingie pulls in behind the plug at speed!!! you can see they mean business at times they just turn around and swim off, other times they will have a go. playing with the retrieve is needed. they like speed and splashes!!!! stick baits did not work off the rocks
