Went to Infanta this weekend past, took along a friend who just bought his first setup, an Adrenalin XXX 12ft with a Rovex Big Boss reel.

Saturday morning got to our spot, baited up, me with crab, friend with whitemussel. And as one should expect, the beginner with his new rod proceeded to land a fat 46cm galjoen with his first cast ;).

I decided to persist with my cracker mission, and kept casting in crab after crab with no luck. Just before packing up, my friend asked if he could try a crab, I should just show him ho to attach it to his hook.

So I baited his 2/0 hook with a smallish red crab, not expecting much. I haven't even had a bite on crab the whole day. Short cast into the foamy water, and less than 10 min later the friend is on again, with another proper fish.

But he was still figuring out his new gear, and unfortunately his drag was set waaaay too tight. Before I could say anything, I see a BIG galjoen being dragged over the reefs in front of us, up an exposed rock, before the hookline broke and it fell back into the water...

Anyway thought it was a cool story, never underestimate beginners luck when fishing! Or was it because he was using light tackle and I was using heavy?!

Thanks. He took off like a big grunter/steenbras and made quite a few strong runs. The fight lasted for about 5 mins.
