Good day fellow sealiners.
I needed some advice. I've been searching for a decent live bait aerator pump for the main purpose of TRANSPORTING live bait.
I am looking for something to provide good oxygen content to the water.
I will be able to run it off a 12v battery. Submersible or not.
I dont mind paying the price as long as it's a good quality pump.

That's the pump I had my eye on!! But it just cost to much to get here. It's over a k.
I've seen a few guys talk about the old jetty locking pump. But I don't even know what it looks like. would you maybe have a pic of it or know how it works? Thanks Lofty

I had a friend, who bought 220v air rater pumps for fish tanks.
he then rewired them to suit 12 volts.
so I got 2.
1x single and 1x double.

they work like a bomb.
pumping 2x liters of air on a line in a minute.

you cant buy them!!!!
and they just keep on lasting!!!

Just something to consider. Aerators alone won't keep your live bait in tip top shape, you will need a system that creates circulation. Thus a pump that you can create some current with is great (bilge pumps or small pond pumps), just have the outflow pump the water out at an angle above the water level, that way it will sufficiently aerate the water as well.

That's what I want to do. But the issue is the wiring part of it. You would have to replace the whole magnet of the internals on the normal 220v.
Any way you could supply me with that friends number?

I know that oxygen alone won't keep the bait in tip top shape.
But just for transporting the bait to the area we fishing. Keeping the bait at home and at the beach isn't a problem at all. Just the problem of loading them into a bakkie and keeping them alive long enough to make it to the beach. The normal R150-R200 aerators do work but they just don't last long enough n they must be replaced every 2 months or so due to rust n corrosion.

Sorry, I meant don't worry about getting an upgraded aerator just get a 12v bilge pump with a hose end that comes out above the water level at an angle, that way it wil create current and air. Fit a plastic container with velcro to the side of the live bait bucket for your battery, easy enough and no need for pop rivets etc. Put some battery grease on the fittings otherwise they will corrode.

Thanks for all the info bud. Will check that out. I'm just confused as to how a bilge pump gives oxygen ( air bubbles) as compared to an air pump. I was under the impression a bilge pump only has one outlet for pushing out water?
Not to clued up on bilge pumps.

Check youtube there are numerous how to videos. Search: bilge pump live bait tank. You don't have to go as fancy as these guys, a clear fish tank tube will suffice.

he passed away about 21 years ago.
mine is still going strong though.

it is simple as I understand it.
just the right type copper wire and the amount of windings which is needed.

cause the mechanics are already there
