This is a photo of my late dad's wooden scarborough reel. It is 16 cm across, and in excellent working order. I use it now and then to throw spoons for shad, or groundbait for edibles. You can set the drag with the center drag screw. Attachment: DSCN0003.JPG (Downloaded 123 times)

Its a masterpiece of turning ability & its pinned in 6 positions & glassed. The bearing journal, handles & bracket were all hand made by the same guy. Whoever made that reel really knew his stuff & it probably is perfectly balanced & runs forever. It appears to be polished with french chalaque rather than varnished. Must feel like velvet in your hands. I'm jealous!

Must feel like velvet in your hands. I'm jealous! It was made by a indian guy in Durban. He had a rod factory behind Hillary station. He made rods, these reels and sinkers. Yes, all metal hand made and it spins forever. My father said he bought it in 1966.
