I have fitted a 30lb Minn Kota motor to the front of my 14'6'' river boat, now it has 5 foreward and 3 reverse gears, by taking the bolt out just below the top section I managed to swing the top section around 180 degrees, i.e. the handle is directly over the propellor now, seems to work ok as well.

The 1st photo shows head section with the control handle repositioned over the prop, the second photo shows the bolt/nut below the head section, this needs to be removed and the head section can then be rotated 180 degrees. The shaft between the head and prop section only contains wiring harness and there is enough slack to remove the head section, so a little rotation isn't a problem. If some day you need to reverse it, I suggest one lifts the head right off to see which way you have twisted the harness and just reverse it.

Okay here's another idea.

The attached photo is a trolling motor. This guy too the head unit of a bruch cutter and it fits perfectly around the shaft below the trolling motor head 30cm. to which he added the bottom part of a crutch and put a foam handle over the end.

A push button (on/off) switch was placed in the deck and could be operated by pushing the button on and off with your foot. (look on Bass Pro shops website - I think it is called a Big Foot specifically for trolling motors).

This way you don't have to keep bending down to turn the motor on and off. You can preset the handle to what ever speed and engage the switch with your foot when you need to move the boat.

The crutch extension just meant you do not have to bend down all the timeto change direction and the end of it sat nicely at hip level and by moving your hips left or right you could change direction - very effective.

Does this make sense?
