hey guys

I need your help. I want to buy a ski vee 14.6ft.
It is currently fit for category R. Will I be able to get a COF for it for category D?
And if there are some guys that own or bought one. What price will you pay for it?

It's powered byb2 30 yammies. 1997 models.
There is some cosmetics that need work, some small cracks on the gunnels and on the left of the transom.

Thanks in advance

Hi, and welcome.

The value is impossible to tell... They're oldish boats with varying pedigrees and vastly varying states of condition... My perception of value is also very different to the next bloke's. So the best advice I can give is to get a wide variety of comparisons by looking through the classifieds, and seeing what actually sells and what doesn't.

You can have your boat designated and Category you want as long as you have the required equipment on board for that category. So check out the required equipment for Cat D and make sure you have it when applying for your COF.

For what it's worth, you may want to consider opting for Cat C as you have one of the fundamental requirements already, being a twin motor installation. I'm a bit rusty on requirements as it's been a while since I had an offshore boat, but I think that in terms of radios, flares, life jackets etc, D & C are quite similar.

Hello,

I have also been looking at buying a ski vee for spearfishing. The C444 is possibly the best design available second hand available for spearfishing or then the next model up is the 500 that is a larger boat 15ft more for open water fishing. In terms of price I think it is all in the motors. You paying for the motors and the boat is free.

Don Solomon in Port Shepstone is manufacturing something called an Osprey that is basically a modern ski vee specifically for spearfishing - wet deck and low gunnels and single motor. These are amazing craft.

Good luck.

The C-Skis from Steve Ellis of Fiber Tech are beautifully built for their price. I had a 440, but they are specifically designed as spearo boats. The 444 is more stable than the 440 but they both have amazing ability in the surf.
