Hi guys.

Recently I got gifted a few rods, reels and some tackle from a deceased uncle. He might have been on this forum as well as he was quite into fishing although he did more fresh water fishing.

I use to fish with my dad as a youngster but life got in the way and now after way too many years have passed I would like to start fishing again and up my game a bit.

Back then we had no idea what we were doing and a lot of it was guessing and hoping for the best. Now I reed post on targeting specific species and all that. Every thing is still very new to me.

Me and my wife tried to go fishing this past weekend and the wind was so bad that I could barely get my bait in the water. Same thing happened a few weeks ago when we were in Franskraal. So it seems we have the ability to predict when not to go fishing.

Anyway, I currently live in Kuilsriver in Cape Town. I do not know the local fishing spots and to be honest I kinda stay away from the local spots as with the kit I got I look like I should know what I am doing and to be honest I have no idea. I know how frustrating it is when someone casts over your line and since I am still working on my cast I tend to stay away from other people fishing.

My plan is to comb through this forum and gather as much knowledge as possible and hopefully make a fishing buddy or two that can show me the finer details about fishing. I would like to target edibles. Something for the braai or pan.

Thank you all in advance. The little time I have spent on here I have already learnt a lot. Now it is all out there.

Welcome to the forum Franky. There is a wealth of knowledge floating around here. One of the nicest spots to go to close to you is De Mond which is just behind Macassar's water treatment plant. I go there quite often with reasonable success. Hope to see you on the beach soon and share a beer or two and maybe some bait!

Hi Mike. Thank you very much. I have never been to Macassar. Do not even know where to go. Maybe I will join you for a session one day.

No problem Franky! I will let you know when I hit the waters again. I have attached a photo of the area. You can see the waste treated water smack bang in the picture.
