Does any one have any idea if the crime at "oom roos se oord" is still bad. Heard that there is a lot of thieves hanging around there.

Does anyone know what works there for carp and what the bass fishing is like.

Keen for a trip out there, need any kind of backround info.^^..

Hi Basstard

The last I was there was about 8 years ago.
We were in a group and stayed at the equipment during the night, this was after we were informed that camping there in a tent is dangerous and we should bring our vehicles closer to the camp site etc. This is where I will leave it for security.

Are you camping or getting a chalet there? facility's there were very basic. cold water shower and such things. the beds are 4 concrete slabs with a sponge mattress and a small fridge.

My best success there for qty was on worm with dough and almond.
The guys caught the bigger carp on large hooks with whole kernel and a "wit pap"
But like I said that was a long time ago and much has changed since then in the methods and baits used. I have not targeted bass so I cant comment on that.

I was there about 2 weeks ago. I spoke to the owner and he said it is safe during the holidays and during weekends if there is a lot of people. There is a security guard walking around during the night.

The fishing was bad though, only small carp came out.

Hey Basstard, My brother went there for a weekend during the Dec. break. Had no problems with security, however he and his mate were always in close proximity to others. Roos has unfortunately earned a bit of a negative rep as far as security goes, but just about anywhere around Harties has become like this. Rather practice safe camping and make the trip in a group than on your own.

As for the fishing, they managed to land quite a few carp, but all were small and none of the bigger carp that Roos is known for showed up. Small floaties and sweet white dough are the way to go there. Your flavours you use anywhere around Harties should always include banana, almond, tjop-tjop (pineapple), cinnamon,FX, and Q35 (TCP). These have worked for me without fail over the years.

If you want to target the bigger carp I'd suggest trying a Tiger Nut on a hair rig, I've heard guys are starting to have more and more success with Tigers there. I have not not tried it myself yet but I definitely will the next time I am there!

Good luck and::tight:

Thanks for your input. Not willing to take the chance seeing that there will only be two of us. We are now going to Bloemhof-heard the fishing there is awesome and worth the 3.5 hour trip from PTA.

I'll hang ten on Oom Roos for a while until I get a big group of people. Maybe post a general invitation on Sealine nothing like fishing with some old hands.

Real pity about oom Roos - fished there a couple of years ago and had a good time.

Its probably worth there while to invest in some proper security so they can build up their reputation again.

Ek was die naweek daar gewees.

Anton.

Roos se oord is as safe as you can get, they have security and lots of lighting around the camping areas. My neighbor went to roos se oord and landed a bag full of fish nothing under the 3kg.The best spot is to stand right at the bottem just were the river feeds into the dam, close to the fence line.he used plain floaties and peach dip with drops of almond on the boll. Most fishes came out from 3 in the afternoon intill 5 in the mornings

Hi there,

I think it's something like R35 or R45 per person per night.  I know it's one of the cheaper places.

With regards to bait, I'm not sure as some say fruity flavours and other say vicks ext.  OLet us know if you've had luck.

I also know that they are not really fond of the day, we always only start getting bait late afternoon and evenings.

Enjoy!
