Thought it would be cool to see where you guys think SA'a Biggest are lurking...

So which dam?

And What do you think the weight is?

Carp?

Barbel?

Bass?

Blou Kurper?

Bass and Kurper Could very well be in the Pongola Area aswell.

Damn, i never thought Barbel could grow to 60 to 65kgs, yet another reason not to swim in dams...LOL or rivers for that matter

Crazy i was reading up on barbel records, says the sa record is 35kg, dont know how updated that is, and that a barbel's lifespan is only about 10 years!!! Thought it would be much longer?/

Ryan – I must agree that Tzaneen dam has got some monsters. But to get them out is a big problem.
That’s the reason we normally gust go to Ebenezer. There are some big carp there as well 20kg+++
The biggest one I have seen there was 24.7kg.
Bass- No clue but I have heard that some big bass came out of Ndondidam----not sure of the spelling
I have caught a 3.7kg kurper in Arabie .
Barbel – Vaal system

barbel def orange river

carp theewaters-found a dead carp which was around 60kgs.fish was 1.5m and a 1.5l coke bottle fitted in the fishes mouth.these fish dont get caught because we dont spend the right time next to the water at the right spots

bass will be in private dams.where dams filled with fodder fish they get past 6kg marks.i have heard of 6.5kg and 7kg in the cape.

mozambique tilapia of 4.5kg. spear fished.cpt

Ok I know this is a old thread but I think it would be interesting to see how this thread would be answered today, 10 years later? I've read somewhere a 59kg baber has been caught in either the vaal or orange (I can't remember the details clearly), but since I read it its fascinated me and frustrated me because I can't find anything else about it (although I've read fish bigger than 42kg have been caught, but the anglers didn't bother applying for a new record because it's such a schlep). So please share if you know anything about those stories. Anyway a picture of a massive carp carp claimed to be 30kg caught at klerkskraal dam (I know from firsthand experience that klerkskraal has a lot of big carp, I've never caught smaller than 6.2kg there and my PB is from there too) so I won't argue the claim. But anyway here's my answer to the thread -
Baber - 60kg onseepkans area of the orange
Carp - 40kg I'm gonna call it in a private farm dam somewhere in south africa.
Bass - 7.8kg loskop dam
Blue Kurper - 4kg jozini dam.
I'm looking forward to seeing what other anglers think. _seal1_
