By the look of the photos can anyone estimate the weight ?

I'm still wating for a photo of a really ENORMOUS YFT but the guy that caught it is out of the oil plataform, will only come back in a couple of weeks.

200 Miles away from Luanda, Deep Deep offshore.

The guy in the next Tuna photo is around 1,78 meter and he his smaller than the YFT!

(DOF) - Depth of Field. Cropping off the bottom of the pic doesn't help either. The guy in the pic is behind the fish (DOF) so everything appears bigger than what it is. LKike this fish that was very average but looks huge.

for the record this fish caught of the good old vixen was just under 80kg's

For me it's just amazing, I never saw in Angola YFT above 50KG, usually around 30Kg.

The first time I heard of this sized Tunas Angola Deep Offshore was Vagabon a french guy that used to work there some years ago.

There was a post about +200 lbs Tuna and he wrote this:

i used to see this size of tuna offshore Congo and Angola, but no charter awailable. i used to jig for them from oil rigs at night, but never managed to land one over 30 kilo. i was using 2 mil nylon as handline and the big ones kept breaking it.unfortunally, fishing is forbiden now on all rigs since 2006

Have fun,

Vagabon

Hello Fedu

i do not have GPS points, but if you can have access to maps showing the different *Blocks* alloted to oil companies, the big tunas where as far out as Block 17 and Kizomba field. they used to come in layers: very small on surface, 30 kilo eech few meter deeper, trying to eat there little brother, and the big ones deeper. they were coming to surface from time to time, but were there all the time. best moment to see them was wen we were flaring off the oil at night time,as the light was pulling everything to surface. now , i have not been there since 2006.

In 2008, i have seen them again offshore Congo, but half an hour helicopter away from shore in 2000 meter water.

to Find them in your place, you may have to try jigging way below the smaller ones, at night.

if you find them, have fun for me as well

BIG Fernando,

what have you done?!?

I hav'nt slept for five days since you showed me the image... cannot think and even I am on holiday... so in principle it's fishing day every day... if not for the season's commitments to parties and family fun...

What is clearly out of reach, is the 200nm times two.

What we should do is to run as far NorthWest as range permits safely and start trying everything in the book for a yellowfin of such proportions... jigging, popping, chumming, trolling... let the games begin.

Yellow Fin Tuna is my dream fish, anything exceeding 200 lbs would be the catch of my life... Kianda have mercy on my sole...

Fernando, sorry again turning down the Sunday-sortie. Not my style normally, you know it.

Yours cordially,

Pargo Jan and Team Skipper "Malta da Kianda"

What I am thinking:

Leave Luanda
Go to Soyo, refuel there, sleep on shore (house).
Go offshore kizomba field, fish 2 days, sleep (if possible) on the boat one night, under the stars in bean bags.
Back to Soyo Refuel, sleep on shore
Back to Luanda

Total trip lenght 550-600 miles.

Time needed 4 days, 2 boats, 2 nights sleep at soyo, send a car ahead to prepare fuel supply and logistics at Soyo.

Or go straight out... o/b a supply boat with a crane...

Trouble is: The chaps wouldnt let us get close to the riggs.

Dreamfish, live on and reproduce!

Let's stick to the areas within range. I liked the idea to gather a small flotilla for the Northern regions.

Fernando, your Torpedo has a range (no extra tanks) of 10 hrs cruising at 30kn? How about the "Tubaroes" ride?

Cordially from at home in the shade (come after work for a G+T),

Jan

Without refuel, our range should be something within the red line.

The international law says 500 meters from the rigs...

will phone later.

I dindn't want to plant the rumour before geting the photo myself, but...., my guy that went there to work for a couple of days heard and saw a photo of a +-200 Kg YFT landed!!

He also saw mighty Tunas swimming around....

I'm waiting for that photo.

P.S. - These ones are Block 15, around 230 miles away from Luanda, on 1.480 meters deep waters.

Yep, thats why I said rumour.

You are not that near to block 15, look at the map +- 100 Km distance.
