SPYKER'S LEADER KNOT

Need a high strength leader knot that is quick to tie and will not slip.

This is it, Spyker's leader knot

In this pictorial the YELLOW dacron represents the mainline and the WHITE dacron the leader material.

It is excellent for freshwater application with a 0.16mm to a 0.35mm leader or for Saltwater with any diameters to a maximum leader of 0.80mm (above 0.80mm it's difficult to get the leader knot closing)

STEP 1

Loop the mainline and fold it over itself, making a slip noose

Slip the leader through the noose and pull the thinner mainline tight around the leader

With your index finger make an eye between the doubled mainline and the leader.

Now wrap the leader 3 times around the doubled mainline

Now fold the leader back on itself and push it through the eye that you kept open with your index finger

Holding the doubled mainline in one hand and the leader in the other start to pull the knot closed. Before pulling the knot tight lubricate it with saliva to ensure that the nylon isn't burnt

Nou dit is die een waarvoor ek gesoek het. Baie goeie een daar. Ek sal hom beslis aandurf

Thanks for this "lecture". It is new to me and going to try it.

I use the Albright knot and I haven't had any problems.

Is Spykers's knot a improvement on the Albright?

My go to connection for edibles fishing leaders, quick, secure and neat.

Better with mono mainlines if you use a spiders hitch (loop) in the mainline.

My kids when they were 7 years old were already using this in fishing tournaments to join their mainline (succesfully)

Hi Enigma

can I confirm this knot is perfect for attaching leader to braid?
Yip

I do it all the time, just make a loop in your braid with a Spider Hitch.

I also find that the thinner the leader, the more turns I use.

Koper you should go read the thread where we tested the effect of a Spider Hitch on Braid's breaking strain....

50lbs Whiplash with spider hitch breaks at 11lbs........

Rather just double the braid and double it again and tie the Spyler knoop and then trim all the ends off, the 4 strands of the double/double braid provides protection to the knot.

How does this knot compare to the albright knot? I am new at fishing with leaders, currently using the albright knot and it knocks the guides on the cast, also affecting distance. Im using a standard BM G3 rod, .40 line with .45 leader
