First try and paddle at demos before you buy. Every single kayak has got its own good properties.

Try a Stealth BFS- second hand -available from Stealth Dbn- PM "Challie"- due to your hieght and weight, I have one and fish with a Buddy about your size also has BFS. Both got ours "posted" from Stealth and very happy with them.

Hi, I agree with Malgas recommendation wholehartedly - won't go wrong with a BFS - new or used just depends on what you like and your budget. there may be other options, but you wont go wrong with this one.
enjoy

My stealth supa-lite was a back breaker for me! I got a back rest and it definately helped a lot, but still got a sore back. In the past there have been some intense debates on this site about the most suitable ski. Every debate ended with - try before you buy - if you can of course!

I can tell you that a supa-lite will definately not suit you because of your weight. A BFS would definately work well.

I think first decide if you want a plastic ski or fiberglass / carbon. Then from there decide your model. I know nothing about plastic - except - I think they are used more further south (PE / Capetown). In Durbs, most guys use fibreglass - but I have seen massive fish caught off pinnacle skis here in DBN too!

Hi SODR, Barry 30, yea def not my intention to spark another slogging debate that just usually just adds more confusion than anything else. There will always be other options and alternatives, but the BFS will def work - based on opinions of a few guys that paddle with me and use their skis every weekend. As for Plastics - nope not here in PE either, its 'glass all the way in this neck of the woods. Cheers F

Hi Challie

Second time I am going to take some advice from you. the first was the Garmin 140 FF the second is that I have bought two BFS's, from Palaborwa second hand, and am concerned that my girlfriend and I might not be tall enought (1.71 and 1.74 respectively), and the adjustable pedals might have to be fitted, where can I get these in Cpt? Thanks Rob

the BFS models need to be 2009  and older for the adjustable pedal systems to be fitted unless they are the model where the pedals are fitted to a plate whereby you can change the size of the plate to make the ski fit you.... hope this helps and mail me if you need more info...

Hi thanks for the reply, I am going to find out from the previous owner what year this boat is. Is there any way I can tell by looking? I used the boat for the first time on Sunday really lovely to paddle, smooth with lots of glide.

awesome... you can send me a picture or just look to see if the kayak has a serial number which would be on the tail of the craft.
