LURE FISHING THE SWARTKOPS.

HEY GUYS.

this is one of our great rivers we have that still produces good fish threw out the year. Lets use this topic for some awsome fishing stories and to see how we can help to protect it and make sure it fishes well for years to come.

Already this week weve seen some good fish landed in the system and theres still lots more to come.

and post some pictures of released fish youve landed and  if theres any tagged fish youve caught and any infomation from interesting re-captures let us know.

Heres a very healthy leery that was released succesfully and gave an awsome account of itself and literally tailwalked the first 50meters after being hooked. it took about 25min to land and was on a surface lure and a 2500 reel and a 6.6 fenwick rod.

hi there Obeid. thats a great 2c worth of info. some might think that sounds like a huge leery but some days you can see upto 20 chases from big leerys and they arnt all the same fish. some and probably most of these fish are visiting the system they once grew up in. the small leerys we wil catch this season around 30 to 40cm will live year for the next two years or so untill about 55 to 60cm were they will spend more time in the surf zone. A good percentage of these smaller sized leerys that ive tagged usually end up being recaptured around our PE breakwater about 2 years later and there are a number of anglers on this site that have recaught those fish and would agree.

just goes to show that the fish we catch today and release back into the system would one day be the fish of 20lbs we want to catch in the surf on our 9ft rods with 20lbs braid and a 4000 reel. And on a lure of course.:wfish

SPIN-A-HOLIC, well done on your catches. I'm truely impressed, not only with the catches but the fact that you realease. I've been after a Leery like that for a long time now!

Don't worry Brother Brettus.  We're going to get one of those mothers soon!!  Very soon.  I mean definitely in the next 15 years.  At least one.  Between us maybe.

I think the main thing is to get more time on the water.  Early mornings before work bro brettus...  I think that's the trick!

Great catch there Spin, most people could only dream of getting a leerie of that size, let alone off the side on a surface lure!

Sunshine- great size fish for the area! Also taken on the surface?

Had some good action yday eve with two good fish being safely netted, photo'd, and released.

@ Shellas, you're right- it is our responsibility to protect our resources; i for one have had the privilege of catching one of the very leerie Spin was talking about that he had previously caught and tagged! Just goes to show, if he hadn't i, along with many other anglers, wouldn't have had the opportunity to enjoy fighting the fish again.

Keep up the good work!

Got this skippy the other day... 6ft 6 with 2500 sienna and 15lb braid on leadhead. Sent him back home no hesitation. Catch and release is the way to go. Wish everyone would release more fish.... Imagine we all did how good the fishing will be for years to come?
