Yes, I really do not have an idea what you guys go through. Must be hard

Well I still wouldnt live in jhb for that reason. I have got a really decent job here for the holidays, so I dont have a reason to move. Iv heard that the people who think that "the big city" has more job oppertunities and money than the normal little town often wind up with a crap job and live in a shack. I suppose thats only true for the "unskilled" labour

On the boogie boarder part: That is how it should be. To respect and be respected as a result

I go to Felixton College, and you? Which school did you go to?

Ya Bay is a lekka place. I dont know why people are leaving. Its so laidback, and has so many fishing spots, but unfortunatley the fish have decreased dramaticly in the harbour. 10 years ago you could catch grunter of over 1.5kg by the dozen. Now you battle to even catch a size grunter. Something went wrong, some people say its the gill nets (most likely), others say its the pollution increase in the harbour (possible). Either way our fish stocks are down big time, and its real sad cuz the innocent fisherman suffer the most

Shweet...Thats the afrikaans high school hey? Or am I thinking of John Ross?

Hai ya, you wont get BEEG fish anymore here in the harbour, although people do get decent garrick, kob, etc, but Im refering to grunter, stumpnose, and all those other estuary fish. The only way you are gonna get a rush now is if you buy an ultralight setup with 4lb line and no.10 hooks, and go to the canal to get stripped by a sprat...

Launching out of Umkomaas mouth I always watch for anglers aiming for me. It's difficult when the sea is big, because you now have quite a few things to watch out for. When I see the line going over the bow I just grab bite and flip a quick 'birdie'. ;)

Cool...

Haha hey fishton the one surfer did that while we were surfing. Angler nearly hit him when he casted, so he grabbed the line, bit it off, and just carried on surfing...::rofl:

Kinda swak to the fisherman though

sorry guys i missed this thread a bit....

i feel that anyone with a rod is a fisherman..or a person who fishes ...but it takes character to be an angler...

those guys at the piers etc might catch big fish but they are not true anglers if they have a blatent disregard for other people and the sea as a resource...

i dont always like it when those guys on jetski's ride around our boat in circles or up and down the blind canal at 100kph....but i keep my mouth shut because i know the sea isnt mine and that they get to have their turn too...

surfers arent as bad as the jetski guys btw...:)

Ya sorry about that, i get sidetracked quite easily

Im working at alkandstrand beach this december, but I do get days off, so maybe something can work. Thank you for the offer. I hope I didnt misunderstand the stuff in bold, was that directed at me? If it wasnt I appologise and will crawl into my small hole due to embarassment. If it was directed at me, then thanx once again, and I hope we can go fishing then:SSS

Haha Matt bru are you sucking up to us surfers now?? Jokes man. Naught bru, no-one is bad, you just get the odd idiot that brings down the whole population. Hey bru, those fisherman on the pier are true anglers, you just get some jerk offs that make them look bad

I dont mind surfers as long as there is a mutual respect for each others passion. The basic rule when we share the ocean is simply first to arrive has the spot and the rights.

You may all have noticed that a great fishing spot also makes a great surfing spot. We both look for the same features to practise our recreation.

What I don't like is when thngs turn to the point where no respect is shown. I have to say that it's normally the surfers that cross this line first. On the other hand fishermen get to emotional and are the first to react.

Vic Bay? Those surfers are heavy. There has been some localism trouble stuff posted in the zigzag surfing mag because of them. Maybe you were throwing next to him? Scaring him? Ticking him off? Granted that he shouldnt have done that, but some surfers get tired of fishermen throwing lead at them...

nope did none of that stuff, surf was huge that day they were all surfing the point wich is a good 100m further up and he was bellyridin a foamie back towards shore into my line and just bit it off. we were a good couple off guys fishing but all left because they showed no respect for our lines wich could have been easily avoided, by the way shaun thompson's handprint is at the point in cement!

Ag no man thats just wrong of the surfer. If I was there, I would have given you full right to smack him. Even if the surfer was my mate, I would have shat on him big time, cuz you are also out there to have fun, I just wish other surfers realised that and respected other water users. Note that it only takes one rotten apple to spoil the bunch, and many surfers are really mellow and respect everyone, but you just get one turd that gives them a bad name. I appologise for what that surfer did to you
