Offshore fishing in Hermanus

Hi guys,

My folks are going down to Hermanus this weekend and will be taking the 'duck along (5.5m semi-rigid, 90hp Mercury Bigfoot - cat E). I'm going through on Saturday morning early so that my dad and I can do some fishing offshore on Saturday and Sunday.

Any tips / advice on where to go, etc. keeping in mind that we're limited to 1nm offshore?

Thanks in advance

Hiya

Something worth looking at. Just buy a handheld VHF radio, costs R600-800 from Seaport Supplies in paarden island. You then need a couple of extra flares and you can have the boat surveyed for 5nm off-shore. No licence needed for the VHF as its only 5w.

Fishing wise, my buddy has speared a 4kg red roman 2minutes boat drive from the harbour!! I've only speared close to the harbour and haven't done much fishing in that area. Should hold PLENTY of reef fish though!!

Good Luck!!

Hiya Miles,

Thanks for the reply:cool:

Still trying to twist my dad's arm to go that route (you suggested it a while back when we were out at sea)

How's the YFT lately?

Hi Visvinger

Try a place called Sopiesklip. It is towards the Plaat past the lagoon mouth. I don't have co-ordinates unfortunately, but it is a well known spot (try the harbour master).

You can expect Hotties, Red Roman, grunter, silvervis etc. Fish in roundabout 20-30m all bottom fishing. Fish range in size of 500g- 2kg.

I know it's not big, but we very seldom come back empty handed and lots of fun.
