Make it next week, have to come down to do an audit at a plant there so won't be able to tow the boat down, maybe trick the company into an extra day for :ifishin

Got the latest Big T prototypes in the bag and packing for R Bay. Be up there late Tuesday and hopefully on the water by the weekend. Some awesome new shapes we've been working on with different internal weighting. Cant wait to give them a run and check the performance. Will post some pics soon!:fswim

After a small hick-up involving a few drinks to celebrate Wayne Richie's new boat, and a few more watching rugby the chances of having a full crew to fish on Sunday took a serious nose dive! But fortunately old friend Takkie Fourie and his son Daniel were itching to get out and I joined them for the trip on Tycoon.
On the way out we had poor water conditions all the way out to the 500m line even though the temp was climbing all the way. Found good blue water on the 800m line and continued out to the 1300m in clean cobult blue water at 23,9 deg.
Worked north and back into the 350m area south of Jolly Rubino where we found a lot of birds working a plankton line. Water had stayed at 23,9/ 24 so we worked the area along the line until 2pm. Had all but given up on seeing a fish when there was a rap on the short flat. The fish came back twice but didnt hook up on a very big lure short flat. Switched to the lure directly behind it and took it out of the clip. Wound it back hard to exite the fish and bingo first blue hooked up. Small fish of 75 kg T/R angler Daniell Fourie

Returning to R Bay later we found the water had pushed all the way in to the 150m line off the harbour and this should only improve over the next week with the NE forcast.
The season has begun and lets hope its going to be a cracker..tight lines all!!

Had two days on the water on Tycoon off Richards Bay with awesome blue water pushing in over the 50m line and improving every day. Went deep on the first day and found good flying fish and birds on the 1000m line where we landed a 25kg Dorado and a 65 kg Yellowfin. Had a marlin in the spread but no strike. Second day we went deep again looking for some more fish for the pot and hooked a bus Yellowfin that spooled the 130lb. Unfortunately the hooks pulled close to the boat after a very strong fight on solid drag. Didnt see the fish but it had to be in the 80 -100kg class judging by the fight. We only did a half day which didnt leave much time out there but there are certainly some quality fish out there. The boat Madness dropped two marlin on Friday and released one on the inside on Saturday so the season is off and running very nicely and should only improve with each day this current establishes itself!
Tite lines all!

Definitely chose the wrong day to go to sea yesterday. Plenty action out there in the sunlight today. Galavant had 2 stripes up and a sail but dropped them while Captain Fine caught 2 big yellowfin of 80 and 90 kgs and dropped a marlin. The action is definitely hotting up. Spent the day productively though and gave Reel Magic a major cleanup. Definitely would have preferred being at sea though...gotta do what you gotta do! :fbash

What a way to open the season.. Learning to fish by brail..rain wind and rough seas. Had the proverbial Sh.t kicked out of us yesterday in pelting rain and a SW squall that had us running for cover on a big boat! Electing to do it all over again this morning with an American client Rick Newman who showed more balls and guts than I have seen in local guys to brave the elements again after feeling the effects the day before. Cancelled his game reserve reservations for another mauling at sea to get the marlin he so badly wanted. He who perserveers wins they say!
Opened the season as we did last year with the release of a 500lb blue, released another 300 lb Blue and dropped a nice Stripey..
The new Big T prototypes doing the damage again.

Awesome day!
Cant imagine how good its going to be when we get some weather to really fish in!!
ps raining again!

Forced our way out yesterday on the big boat with 4-5 meter swell, rough south sea and rain....and then deployed 30 lb outfits only??! Ran a teazer to get something sizeable into the spread to get a fish up in the darkness. Not a tactic I enjoy but necessary due to the conditions. Wasnt long before we were scrambling to get it out the water as a nice Stripey did a good job of making it look decidedly second hand. Fish turned behind the short and waved goodbye! Just the reason why I dont like teasers..Shortly after, had what looked to be a black smash the teazer, knock the left short out the rigger and then inhaled the right short - game on. Cleared lines while the fish tore 500 meters off the spool while staying down. Couldnt back up in that sea or turn as we had no idea where the fish was. Didnt matter that I had backed off completely on the drag, one big surge and she was gone...the curse continues!! Thats what you get for forcing the 30 lb issue in rediculous conditions!Went 50 meters after winding in all the slack and we had another fish up in the spread that hooked up briefly on the shotgun and came off. Weather report for the next week is a horror show..plenty time for the wounds to heal... :raine:raine:raine^^..^^..:SSS:SSS

Out today for the first time since the raging weather to find a big swell running and discoloured water out to the 400m line(Thanks buster SW). Got 2 nice Dorado on 30 lb but no action from the big girls. NE Wind blew us home early but its good to see some game fish making an appearance and with two days NE forecast, the water should push in and clean up quickly . Wondering how the guys went at Soddies today, sure there were a good few boats out!

At last some weather to fish in..flat see for a day..what!! Raised 3 blues today dropped a bus early then a rat and released a nice blue of 400+. Maintained the 100% record on charters since last season--chuffed! All fish before 10am! Slow day at Oet only 8 fish and all this morning too. Out again tomorrow hoping to correct the hookup ratio!
