Hi guys, I wonder if anyone knows if fishing in the Durban Bay area is allowed. I remember fishing there with my Dad in the early nineties, but apparently now its no longer permitted. If anyone knows about this, please let me know.
Thanks,
Nic

Thanks Dugongboy. Thats no good. My brother knows a tug pilot, and this dude said they dont let folks fish in the harbor for security reasons. Something about floating bombs into the shipping channels...

You can fish at BAT center. Get there early because it can get busy. You can park inside, it normally costs R10.00.

Guys get some fairly decent fish there from time to time. Grunter, mullet, king fish, stump nose, gar fish, just depends.

There are nice Rockies at BAT center too. I've seen two guys lose very big yellow bellies, because they where not too clued up on actually getting a fish out the water.

There is an old navy ship that just lies there, as part of the maritime museum. They Rockies hide under there. If you can get a sardine head or even a nice live bait to sit just near that ship, without tangling on the ship itself, you'll be in business!!

im so keen but i reckon i should get myself the proper bait licenses- i got one faulty leg that dont bend so running from cops or parkies is out for me - the alternative is to stay and box but that never ends well.

Don't even try it. They might not always arrest the guys with 5 checkers packs full of prawns, but you'll get nailed!

Bait license is so cheap, it makes cheating the system such a stupid risk to take. You can still give it a shot with sardines, baby squid, and of course, a nice live bait!!

i agree J_Bay, its bad enough fishing in an illegal spot. No need to use illegal bait too when a permit is cheap enough. Was actually looking into trot lines for catching crabs for bait.
