I'm looking at upgrading my current steering to a Hydraulic system, any advice would be appreciated. Where to get the best deal, who to do the installation, what to avoid etc etc.

My requirements are for a single 90hp Merc.

thanks in advance

I have the same question(s)... except for a twin motor installation. The motors are very close to the gunnels and the cable is forced to take a very sharp turn coming out of the motor housing. Consequently, the helm is quite heavy.

I'd be interested to know, other than price, what the drawbacks are of Hydraulic. Thanks in advance, and sorry Cat, didn't mean to hi-jack.

hydraulic has no draw backs, wish I had already fitted my stainless ram from Nantes (sealine member) he manufactures them, then I could advise on this unit, was not ridiculous expensive, give him a pm, has inexpensive easily and readily available seals

For off the shelf system cannot go wrong with a sea star unit. a good boat dealer can fit, cost me 9500 2 years ago for a system for my sodwana cat 2 x 50 hondas

Catmallat, I had recently installed by Hayward Suzuki in Strand for less than R 8 000.

Works nice on my capie with the twin Suzukies.  I think they will have less trouble installing with your single motor.

The problem with the twins on the 17 Capie was the lack of space.
