Was out in the horrid west today, headed to the 90m and then to Umhloti, and then came back along the coast line.

I decided to fish light with my 20lb rigs, and we ran 3 small lures and 5 Rapala'a/Halco's

We did well with the Yellowfin Tuna, landing 14 and the angler dropping one along with the rod and reel all over board.

Saturday had flat seas, started with a SW and most of the day the dreaded SE blew eventually turinging into a NE, over all nice conditions and even found some stunning warm water.

For me it was a demoralising day which really took a lot to keep my composure. We got a few bonnies and some slinger

Launched at 05h30 this morning into a moderate NE wind, with a family with 2 children. I was fishing with our light 20lb tackle. By 06h30 the sea was nice and by 08h00 we were back in prot as the little guys got sea sick. for the 1.5hrs we did fish here is what happened.

I think I had our 7 line spread out for less than a minute when we had the 1st Bonnie on which was bravely fought by a 6 year old boy.

After this we set the spread again and with in 5minutes the shotgun went off like a boieng on steroids, and the Torium 30 was screaming with about 400m of line out before we managed to turn the fish, the Trevela ML had a serous bend to it.

After about 30-40minutes we had a nice Saily of 35-40Kg near the boat, and then he taile walked straight at us and the hook came out before I could get him on the leader.

We again set our spread and shortly after I was requested to return to port so we took a slow troll in

Launched at 05h00 this morning for a 5hr charter, conditions were nice although deeper out the swells were on the large side.

No.1 reef was wild this morning with Kawa action and we had several multiple hook ups landing 26 with most around 3Kg and a few over 5 kg. Awesome fun on light tackle. Also had 2 x Rappies bitten off.

We then headed out deeper and had no further action.

The water closer in was green but over 25 deg. C and seemed to have better life that the blue water deeper which was under 25 deg.C

Dorado seem to have vanished, lets hope they come back.

After several days of watching the currents and warm water to decide on our destination we woke to an absolutely stunning day, although the forecast predicted a light SW we launched at 04h30 into a light NE and flat seas and made our way towards the area I had selected as being the prime spot.
At about 09h00 we reached the area and were now about 60Km’s from shore and then I changed course and started running with the current which was in an N-S direction.

Within in 30 minutes and about 5Km travelled in the area the shot gun rigger elastic snapped and the Makaira reel started to growl and we saw a Marlin bounding away from the boat taking line rapidly. Shaun jumped into the chair and was strapped onto the rod and all the lines were cleared, it was not long before well over 500m of line was out and we had to start backing up on the fish to gain line, unfortunately she went deep and a hard fight of over 2hrs ensued before we finally got her to the boat. Eventually when I grabbed the leader I could feel she had nothing left and she rolled over DOA. I was very disappointed with this and was sad actually at the same time as all of us being over the moon with excitement.

It took 5 of us all our strength to lift her on to the boat. She was a large Black Marlin estimated at 230Kg (500lbs). Well done to Shaun on his first Marlin and well done to Fat Girl on her first Marlin.

We carried on looking for another fish, because whilst we were handling the Marlin we saw another one jumping 200m away from us. On the way back we saw some Turtles, 2 large Sunfish, a pod of Minky Whales, some Dolphins and a large Shark. We were also rewarded with a nice 15Kg Yellowfin Tuna on the 400m.

I want to add a statement here as I have receieved a lot of "comments" on bringing the Marlin back.

I am very sad that the fish died, and it is my 1st dead Billfish, when we got the fish on the leader she rolled over and died, I did try to revive her and swam her for a while but she was dead and I cannot bring the dead back to life. I saw no point in dumping her and saying she was released, and rather brought her back so at least she could be eaten and not wasted and at least in this way she still gets respected and mantains her dignity.

I strongly stand for Catch Photo Release, responsible and sustainable fishing practices and stand up for conservation, but fish dying is part of our sport.

You are entitled to the odd fish for consumption any way. I do and will take the odd small one myself without feeling too terrible about it.

It's going to happen, no worries.
Those that preach 100% release have simply not caught enough.
Besides, it is a very special treat once in a while!
Congrats to angler, skipper and crew.
