Snoek @ Robben Island

Hi Guys

We launched at OPBC on Saturday morning. No que at the slip was a big surprise. After the weeks good catches it was a bit of a surprise. We quickly made our way to the Back of Robben where a few other boats were already anchored. Fish came out onecy onecy.

Trawled a few deeprunners for a while and picked up one lone snoek. Decided to anchor and start a chum line. Not long and we started to pick up some fish on the bait lines. Ended up with our quota of twenty and decided to call it a day at around eleven, just in time for the rugby.

Nice going Bingo.
There were fish from the Island to the Point as is customary this time of year.
Did you try working the lead as a matter of interest?

Cheers

We had a awesome day out at Robben yesterday, went out with "Johan" on his duck and we managed to catch our 10 a man without a hassle. I put in the light tackle and landed a couple of fish on my Daiwa Exceller, but ended up playing with a seal too. We had a great day otherwise!!

I was out on Saturday with some other friends in the same area and we also managed to catch our tally quite easily!!

Hey Bingo, thought that looked like a Witblitz. Great little boats.
Where is OPBC slip if i may ask?
OPBC, it is just outside the Moullie point entrance of the Waterfront, it is between the Waterfront and Hotel management/ Raddison Hotel opposite the golfcourse. A nice short run from the slip to where the snoek are!!

Glad you guys also got some nice fish. Yes Patrick it is a little Witblitz, awesome little two man boats. Also very economical and light to tow. Only draw back is that you need to put your catch in bakke on deck, no fish-pit, but otherwise a very nice little rig.

Saw one or two commercials on the N1 this morning on my way to work. Itching to go again.

The fish was pretty much the same yesterday (Monday) they had 20's a man there at the island but the guys at the withuisie did better, with some up to 40 a man!

Oh No, I will go and have a look at OPBC later this morning to see how many boats launched and if any fish is coming out. I work in the Harbour so it is quite close by. With my luck the fish will vanish and the wind will start pumping .

Where can I buy small quantities of Pike ?

Go to Reggie in Brooklyn, he sells 1kg bags, i think they are around R20, the other option is to buy a 10kg box, and split it yourself into smaller packages, if you get the brown box it has plastice between the layers and can be seperated, dont get the white boxes though because they are frozen with no plastic between the layers and impossible to seperate when frozen!! A 10 Kg box is R140

Thanks Donovan. Do you have to be a member to launch there? if there fish are off there, then its a damn sight closer for me to tow from Durbanville!

Nope you dont need to be a member at OPBC to launch, i think that they charge R50 for the launch, if you a non member then you also not allowed to park your car and trailer in the club grounds but have to park outside in the street!

Thats correct, other wise they put a big red sticker on your windscreen if you park inside - hell of a job to take it off.

We went out yesterday morning, in the mist. Most boats went down to the withuisie, but I decided to go to Robben. Only saw a handfull of commercials that side. Luckily we got some nice fish again more or less on the same spot as last time. Had some good fun on my small rod and reel with 40lb braid and leader. Picked up about 4 on the rig. Great fun, just mind the other lines. In the end we again had a stunning day.

Hi Patrick, I am sure they are still there, but the weather will not allow you to go and have a look. Monday will be a nice day again, with the swell also not so big.

Hi Guys
I see in various posts it is mentioned that there are some great fishing around Robben Island.
I notice on seacharts that the water around Robben Island is still marked as a Military Exercise area, and entry is prohibited.

Is this still valid - fished on the outside???

Regards
Murphy
