The abu has a very good drag. I love my shimmies but prefer the stx for barbel. Just change out the bearing to sealed units on your first service.

when casting with your right hand to babers (and Bass) on the surface they take the lure immediately... no time to cast with right hand, switch over to left hand and strike, been there done that, your strike rate will increase a lot, plus if you are right handed you have a stronger arm to fight with, especially after a few big boys

agree there might be a slit second delay changing hands but don't agree with the Right arm been stronger then the left, I'm right handed and my left is stronger!

Hi ayoba and monster. Was also thinking about the revo stx, reel looks really nice and the drag is far beter than the rest at 20lb. I am left handed and cast using left hand so right hand reel is fine for me.Thanks for your inputs

I agree with choosing the Abu Garcia Revo STX. It's drag is rated at 20lb!

I've also been looking at a barbel lure setup, but I'm on a bit of a tighter budget. The Abu Garcia Orra SX also looks like a great reel. 15lb drag, 8 bearings.

What retrieve ration would you guys go for the 6.4:1 or the 7.1:1

For buddy casting the 7.1:1 would probably be best to retrieve as quick as possible after you've let the lure sink a bit, but wouldn't the 6.4:1 give you a more powerful retrieve while fighting the fish?

Multisport, is the Sensation Pro Elite you got a 2 or 1 piece?

Cheers

Hi Kaptein the orra sx also looks like a nice reel and with that 15 lb drag you'd be fine.Im not to sure about the best ratio when fighting a fish , but think its more important to have a fast casting ratio when casting at barbel if you dont get slammed to be able to cast again. Its a 1 piece micro guide 701HF actually. What lenght leader would you normally put on?

multisport if you got micro guides, you should use a short 1m leader. the leader knot will  hook the eyes

Hi does anyone know where I can still find the silver & gold GEN2 Abu Garcia Revo STX?

The new model GEN 3 STX has just come out, but it has carbon sideplates, opposed to the aluminium sideplates on the GEN 2 STX.

Think that the GEN 2 with the alu sides would be a bit more solid.

Thanks

Dankie multisport,

Gani's het nie meer die GEN 2 STX nie, maar ek het 'n paar leads gekry oor waar ek nog Revo STX en Revo Inshore kan kry.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

Can anyone point me in a direction where I could find new/sealed bearings for my KVD Tour Baitcaster that seems to be overworked...barbels of course.

Thanks a lot!
