What am I doing wrong

Hi guys

So I went to Lumana resort next to the Vaal for a session from Friday to Sunday and ja was disappointing to see me catch a 2kg on a tiger and a guy sitting two camps away from me getting a 10kg with a deeg and float on papgooi. so Saturday night I converted to the dark side and caught 10 small fish about a 1kg each before I went home.

now the question is what did I do wrong? I didn't feed a lot because I was scared of overfeed, I used a normal safety rig so what am I doing wrong? was my hook lengths to long? sinkers to heavy? or was my tigers vrot or maybe to big? I really don't know. I was not hoping to catch a 15kg but at least a few 9 and 10s would have made me feel beter.

Any help will be appreciated

You did nothing wrong, just the wrong place and the wrong time....the other guy was at the right place the right time...that is fishing...

I did Specimen he did papgooi that sucks, I mean the guy comes and tells me "take that rock that lies there and drill a hole in it put it on your hear rig and you will have the same result.

I am a bit unhappy.....:fbash

then next time do a combination of both? have a papgooi rod in as well...nothing wrong with papgooi, as long as you treat the fish with care?

Using a tigernut won't guarantee you a big fish but it will better your chances. Were you casting or did you use a boat with a fish finder?

I got a marker float out about 40m from the side was a 1.5 meter drop to 4m and then it is flat until you get the channel on the other side but its a fast drop then to 7m and I cant cast it accurately to that small area so I bargained on the 40m area. like I said the guys mostly fished on the 40meter target and there was a few passed 10kg that was caught on the normal papgooi method. so I figured maby didn't feed the right way or something was wrong.

This is a difficult one to answer, my marker float skills are not up to scratch and I prefer using a FF, unfortunately it's not allowed at all venues. I would still fish with hair rigs at that venue if I were you but maybe simply it even more, by say a single grain of maize on the hair, possibly using a conventional dip.

HennieB thanks for the info I will give it a go, I was also thinking maybe also put a voerbol on with a little bit of maize the feed?

thanks hopefully next time I post here it will be with a fish from that resort thanks

just keep it simple....if you worry too much about the other guys you already lost half the battle....just do what you do best and have fun...the rest will follow...and believe in yourself...

I also come from a conventional background, but once I completely switched over to specimen carp angling I never went back and to be honest I hate conventional angling now. Like you said the problem is mindset and a lot of times I see guys that have almost converted still fishing conventional venues and expecting different results.

very true HennieB, I am working on the mindset, I think I need one good session to completely get me there. But I will keep on working on it.

Good advice HennieB! Dai Deng, the other guy might have had a good feeding area built up, he might have been dipping his dough bait in an attractive dip or used some on his bomb and he could have just been fishing in a good spot. And he could have fished that spot many times before and knows what to do to get bites...

Put that guy at another dam and he could be the one looking over at the specimen carp angler who is cathing all the big carp, while he is catching nothing lol ;) .

Perhaps you should put in abit more feed, and use a dip/glug that is known to work at the Vaal and soak your hookbait in it before casting in... or add something to your feed to attract the fish more... like condensed milk, or some chilli flakes etc. So basically something that pulls the fish onto your spot... The area you were fishing sounds ok to me, and if the other guy was getting them at the same range out then it sounds like you just didnt get the fish onto your feed....? just my opinion though.

Hi MadCarper, Yes I actually know the guy he is also In our club and he arrived the same time as me and left the same time as me so it made him very happy to kick my ass.

But I also think the feed wasn't enough because the other guy only later in the day after getting small carp after small carp started getting those bigger ones so the voerbol probably started building a good feeding place and the bigger carps started moving in or something like that.

So I think you are 100% correct, the more you guys comment on this thread the more I start realizing different things

Thanks
