4x4 Being Allowed On The Beaches

Hello Everyone

I do know that is a very old topic of discusion, but having read alot about this i realised that we may have one more little topic concerning this whole ban on vehical use on our coastline..

Firstly i am and have have only realy become very conservation orientated in reacent times and therefore can't say that i am an angel.but can say that i am like alot of others trying to make a change both in my own mindset and in others that i am close to and have some sort of influence on.

We have been banned totaly from using our 4x4's and any other vehicals on our beaches.I have come ro realise the scientific reasons for this ban and fully agree with the law totally. My question and grievience with this law is how in some cases the law tends to be more tollerent of some then of others.

The people in question are firstly our parksboard officlials which was brought up in a previous post. These guy's don't even jump out of these vehicals to inspect or police our beaches. My question is,is it realy justified in allowing our parksboard officlals the privilage of driving on the beaches if they in most instances do not perform their duties, are we not then just incouraging their incompetance? Are we then saying that these vehicals that the parksboard use on our beaches not damagig any marine living organisims on our shores? How can we defrentiate between one 4x4 or 100 any damge to marine organisims is damge that we can't afford. We have a very frgile marine eco system so why allow any damage at all.My sugestion would be to make these guy's walk a set amount of beach and in this way they will definately become more involved in the happenings of our coastline ie. being able to check licenses and bag limits more. Also this will encourage the one on one comunication between anglers and parksboard.

Secondly i have a seen over the years that Ski Boat Anglers have the right too launch from stategic locations on the beach.Don't get me wrong i do not have a vendetor against any Ski Boat Owner it's just my obsivation. Why is it that they are allowed to launch from the surf? Are they not then also contributing to the destuction of the marine organisims and  plant life on our shores? Here again i say we as South Africans can't afford any kind of damage to our shore line because of the frgile state it is in.Who are we to defrentiate between how much damge is being done and who is doing it?There is no one who can really say or justify how much damge is done by firstly the parks board vehicals and secondly the ski boaters do to our coast.I fully understand that we were guilty of destroying our coastline with our vehicals and i am in full support of the ban but as i say again how is it that we can then defretiate between damage? To me any damage is damge that we cannot afford.

Lastly i want to bring up the topic of the beachwood virginia stretch of beach in durban.I live in virginia and offten fish that stretch, and in recent times have seen the amount of damage that these 4x4 vehicals are doing over there.I have made numerous requests for some explanation to why these vehicals are allowed to fish with their vehicals on these beaches and the only awnser i got is that they are BONIFIED CLUB ANGLERS,my question is that why should one stretch of beach be open for destruction and not any beach. Is it not common sense that by allowing one little strech of beach to be used and being used to so much is this not going to allow this beach to be totaly destroyed because of the amount of traffic that insues this strectch.I would like a reason for this as i am yet to get a formal response from any of the relevent parties involved. These guy's who are allowed to take their vehicals on the beach don't even  realise the luxuary that they have been given they still abuse this privilage by driving on the dunes,on the waters edge etc...Here agian guy's i don't have a vendetor against club anglers so dont get me wrong i am just trying to state the obvious, should'nt the guy's who are allowed this so called privilage of driving on our beaches protect and police these beaches with all their might so that it does'nt get taken away from the like it was before?

What i would like to achieve by writing tis artical is some sort of clarity and hopefully positive result and response and also points of views which we can use to educate and conservate..

howsit riymos,

about the ski boat launching.its only ski boat members who belong to a ski boat club.they have to pay a fee to have the priviledge to own keys to go in and out of a gate to launch their boats.that fee goes to the ezemvelo found (WHICH IS BEEN USED STUPIDLY) but they have terms and conditions and the club rules are strict, so theres no vandalism to our beaches.but imagine if fishermen were allowed on the beaches again.it would be such an advantage with the new bays been created by the huge seas.

Hey guys

I met a guy this weekend who told me that he still goes on the beach with his 4x4. He drives from umhlanga down to blue lagoon on the sand. According to him 4x4's are still allowed on that section of beach to everybody not just club anglers.

you know what,if i had a 4by4 i would drive on the beach.stuff them, you can get to the good spots and you dont have to worry about your car been broken into while you fishing.and if the parks board come you just balega, they'll never catch you

Veez who ever told you that is wrong bru only club anglers are allowed to use that stretch and even that you are not allowed to go as far as Blue Lagoon bru,so be carefull if you do you may get in Kak..

Leny those rules however harsh they seem, they do have merit in them.If you consider the amount of damage that was done then you can start to understand why they made those rules.I agree with you we do need to be able to take our vehicals with us to be safer but then if we are ever given that opotunity again we all need to be able to look after and take care of our coast line. The problem is how many of the thousands of anglers that are out there actually adhere to rules and regulations that are put down.Well in my opinion only a hand full.

So what needs to be done first is educate these idiots who do destroy the beaches by driving on the dubes etc..Then once that is done hopefully we can start being allowed back on..

Hi guys

Before we can even go the 4x4 education I think we need look at the fishing areas in KZN...the mess left after a fishing day...

So guys...lets be honest ...if we cannot fix that what chances we have of controlling huge engines on the dunes

:(:(:blah

I have no intention of driving on the beach that's why I bought a 4x2 instead of a 4x4.
I like to play by the book.

Was just making sure cause he invited me to fish with him.

I wouldn't want to go with this guy and then have my equipment confiscated by the Parkies for the breaking the law.

As far as I was aware it was not the fisherman that got the 4X4's banned it was the joy riders. The story that I heard was that Valli Musa was walking in the dunes and was almost taken out by some idiot and that is where this whole beach ban started. I have driven on beaches for many years and have never driven on a dune exept to get onto the beach at the access point. If you are fishing you are interested in the water not the dunes. If it was policed right it would not be a problem but that is were the problem starts there is no one to police these things. The guys are even driving on at Unkomaas and going up to the corner, where the rocks start to fish.

One question how do the advertising guys still get it right when they show vehicles on the beach is this not false advertising or advercating breaking the law ?? just a question.

There are so many stories that were gong around it's hard to know which one is the true and which ones were just fabricated. The one i heard was that Vallie Musa's daughter was walking around and then she nearly got run over so i think it may ba a case of her running and complaining to her daddy.

Having said this i also think that it was a long time coming for us 4x4 guy's i think it should have been up to us who were given that privilage of driving on the beaches to have policed it our selves,But guess what we took it for granted and just allowed the destruction and recklesness to continue.

No we all sit here and regret and it is too late,I only hope that sometime somehow we eventually get back on the beaches. And i hope if we ever do then we can all make a difference and look after our coast line..
