Good day all,

Please may I ask for your assistance here.

A mate and I are looking at coming to CT for a week (the last week of April) what can one expect there and is going deep sea at that period worth it?

Thanks

Hi peter, Yellowfin tuna is still around for deep sea but obviously weather dependant for a trip to the canyon.

Awesome thanks, what would be available from shore?

April is an odd time as the summer fish are leaving and its just to early for the winter fish? Or is that rubbish?

Hi Peter,

Try Silversands in Betty's bay for spotted gullies in small swell using mullet baits. You can also try for white steenbras in Betty's Bay beach breaks such as Verwoerds and Silversands in small seas. Larger surf will require you to target galjoen on Betty's Bay reefs where flat rocks with eel grass and no kelp will hold fish.

Cape Point reserve is also a good option for either inshore boat fishing at the point for yellowtail, snoek and hottentot and Buffelsbay for snoek and chokka. The Reserve also offers good shore fishing for galjoen in large seas with same rock structure as mentioned for Betty's bay.

Provincial R&S guys held interclub at Struisbaai last weekend and were still able to catch raggies, bronzies, greys and kob. Galjoen and Steenbras will feature prominently at places like Brandfontein, Rietfontein and Suiderstrand in that area.

Hope this helps...

try Bikini Beach in Gordon's Bay for steenbras if you don't want to go to too much trouble driving around. Fish from the start of the harbour wall and cast towards Bikini beach, especially after or during a southwester.

I went out this past weekend in Gordon's Bay (April). The Bay was full of Bonita. No need to even go deep, we were about 200m off of the coast.

Here's a video showing the experience;

Thanks VaalieBassman!

We actually went out again, in search of a couple more Bonito... but to our amazement managed to land 2 large yellowtail, only a couple of hundred meters from the harbour wall ::tight:
