Access to surf at Sodwana Bay

Hi  all

Can anyone give a contact details for Sodwana Bay Parks Board. I'm going up there and need to get details about access to the surf. I've been told that you need to drive a some distance either on the beach or close to the beach to get to the surf.

NO, park in the car park and walk 200m to the beach and fishing in the bay. Fishing however, is poor in Sodwana generally, unless you go offshore. In the bay at night there are sometimes small shad runs from time to time, but other than dropshotting, there is not much opportunity.

If you have a 4x4 you can drive straight onto the beach and park where the boat launch site is. Thats where the bay is and where the fishing is...

Hi Reefman

I've just was not sure about the restriction for 4 x 4 on the beach.

Thanks Again

If you go there now this long weekend, you probably wouldn't find a spot on the beach to lie and tan, for all the 4x4's parked there!!!!!!!!!!

Sodwana Bay is one of the very few places (if not the only??) on the SA coast where restricted, recreational access to the beach is still allowed for 4x4s. A 4km stretch of coast running north from Jesser Point has been allocated as a special recreational use area where 4x4 vehicles are allowed to drive.

We can thank the resident commercial fishing and scuba operators at Sodwana for wrestling that small allowance out of the government when the 4x4 restrictions came into effect.
