Saturday Robben Island Report

They sharp too because when I first got into it when I came down here and started fishing the Cape they spotted me from a mile out and only ripped me off the first few trips - bastards.

But I soon wised up and thanks to a few good old commercial mates it never happened again.

But watching the langaane is in itself a whole show.

The thing I miss a lot is the cry on the slip. Vyftien rand vyftien rand, hiers jou geluk my liefie was the one chirp a dude let rip off the boat to my wife who he thought wanted to buy a fish.

Man I heard a few peaches but they sure as hell could not be repeated on here....

I remember standing at Hermanus Old Harbour in the parking lot, this bakkie puls up with a wiff of Snoek  - a guy gets out the back, covered in whatever leftovers were there from the previous gutting, and shouts - "hier is jou braai en jou poeding en pie!   Look, that was a nice snoekie on the braai!  Just loved it.

Thank you guys for a great report back.:wfish

Great story, I really enjoyed reading it and it, I was also out there at Robben on Saturday and had the funniest snoek experience ever. I took out two of my mates and we were also fishing on the west side of Robben in the early morning. Exept a couple of skelm snoek nothing else really seemed to bite . The guys on a commercial boat however started roring and a gaff was seen and afterwords handshakes, so I told my friends that it must be a tail. We later decided to go and test the coloured water on the north side but without any luck there returned to the west side and started catching snoek at a faster rate than the morning. But then something funny started happening....... You hook the snoek, fight it and before you had it halfway we got this "re-energised-not a snoek this guys" type of pull on the handlines. My immediate thoughts, "seals on the bite", but after losing 3 fish and not seeing any seals in the vacinity shaking their stolen food I started getting suspicious. Then I saw a shark jump right out the water a couple of hundred metres away, then my mind played tricks on me and I thought well maybe its just one of the dolphins we saw there in the morning, yet it did not come back up again......... We eventually after losing a good couple of fish landed about 20 1/2 fish, and what a beautifull day!!!!
