Just wondering if anyone has used this AliExpress site that I always see on this website to make purchases. Are there any problems with receiving your goods…do you still get taxed etc. once the goods arrive or is the final price worked out when you do your purchase like amazon - Thanks

I buy from Ali Express all the time, it's the largest online store in the world.

The seller only receive his payment once you receive the product, so no chance of being scammed.

Look for a seller that use a courier and avoid the postal service, because SAPO suck.

be careful when buying from China especially on aliexpress as what you see advertised in most cases is not what you get and posting items back could cost a fortune, in most cases shipping via a reputable courier costs way more than the item purchased in some cases up to usd150 for a package weighing less than half a kg. guarantees and warranties are also almost never honoured so It makes sense sourcing the same items locally and saving on shipping, import duties and vat which in some cases amount to two thirds of the items actual value and having peace of mind with guarantees being honoured. free shipping is seldom free and really does take anywhere from 2 weeks up to and beyond 60 days.

I use another China based site called dhgate.com
Similar to aliexpress in that payment is only released to seller once you've received your product. You can also choose the courier.

There are plenty utube videos of the products sold on this site.

Just like ebay, it pays to first check out the reputation/ranking/feedback of the seller. I try not to buy really expensive items online. But for things like braid, hooks, belts, t-shirts etc, I'll gladly go online.

I recently bought a lot of fly fishing reels from them.

Was exactly like the description and photos.

Only hassle was that it got to SA in 6 days and the took almost 3 months to get to me via the speedy SAPO services.

So opt for the courier option.

I recently discovered www.aramexglobalshopper.com. Their service gives you 13 addresses worldwide that you can use to ship a package to and then they courier it to your doorstep from that address. They have delivery addresses in Hong Kong as well as in China that you can ship to.

They charged me R176 for half a kg and R99 for every additional 0.5kg.

Admittedly, I haven't bought stuff from aliexpress yet.
