Looking for a small spinning reel 2000-3000 size and I don't want to spend more than R1000 new. I have looked at the Shimano Symetre and Penn Conquer, any other suggestions? Also willing to buy secondhand if the reel is looked after.

I agree, get the Symetre. I have the Sahara 3000 which is awesome as well (dont go for the 2500 though - same size as 3000, just has a smaller spool and even the guy at the fishing shop said it feels weird) U wont regret getting either of the 2 shimmies

I have 2 small Shimano reels DL4000 and the Sienna 4000FD but they are a bit heavy for my liking and my Daiwa Pro Z rod feels unbalanced.

I swopped my Sienna 4000 for the Sahara 4000 (paid in a bit - WORTH EVERY PENNY). Gave my Sienna 2500 away and replaced it with the Sahara 3000. My 3000 is for bass and light lure spinning. Super fast and smooth as hell. Perfect balance on my Fenwick GT 7'. A mate of mine also has a Sahara 3000 on his exceler 7' which he rates highly. You will not look back getting the Sahara or Symetre.

Ecooda blackhawk 2000 size... Nicest small reel I think that I have handled and it is priced well under a grand. 2 mates have been fishing them for the last year heavily for the bass etc.and are raving about them.. If I needed a new small spinner, that's what I'd get. But as said above, you cannot go wrong with the shimano's either.. Last edited on Mon May 4th, 2015 02:32 pm by Dr halibut hoffman |

I am not familiar with this brand although I might have seen them at Solomons in Pta.

http://www.tacklesa.co.za/products/reel%20ecooda%20blackhawk.aspx Enigma's site stocks them, ask him about them..but saw my mate last week who fishes one and he said that after a year of fishing hard, dropping in the water and mud, rinsing off, it is as good as the day he got it. He fishes a few times a week, runs a tackle store and has access to any reel he likes, and lives across the road from bass waters so fishes most days of the week before work. He loves his reel, I borrowed it for a trip and it was an absolute pleasure and I got my PB on it but that was a bonus. But if you can't get a shimmy ![]()

Thanks, I read some reviews and they really do look impressive. Phoned around and found them at a good price. Going to have a look this afternoon.
