Hi Sealiners

Had my 2 x 1992, Yamaha 40's electric start, stolen off my boat.

Serial numbers are:

 40-HEO 6H4-L-424874
 40-HEO 6H4-L-424871

Hope a similar incident does not befall other members of the community.

One thing for sure, the thieves deserve an "Ass cannon"..That should teach em not to mess with a mans boat.

Hi Dries123

Boat was stored at a 'secure' storage facility near Centurion. It has been there for a good few years without incident.

Access is supposed to be strictly controlled to only permit registered persons entry.

Went to check in September & everything was fine. Came back in October to find the hull less the outboards. Control cables cut with the mounting bolts strewn on the deck. One motor covers was left in the boat.  Worst was that the security 'hadn't noticed' anything wrong.

Inspected another boat to find that their control cables had been cut and the outboard was hanging, loose from the transom by a single bolt  Found my other motor cover on this boat. The cretins were obviously just waiting for an opportune time to come fetch their next big score.

I have no idea how one goes about avoiding similar incidents occurring in the future.

There must clearly be a market & we are all vulnerable.

That is a concern to me as my boat will have to go to Storage when I return after Dec holidays!!

There is no doubt in my mind that the security was "in" on the theft of those motors. It does not take 5 min to steal them off a boat....and then prepare the other ones to just load them next time.

I will have to make sure that the storage facility is secure as can be. I am on the Eastern side of Pretoria

If it was stored outside a garage at the storage facility in the open then I would certainly hope you can legally hold them responsible as it cannot be possible to not notice this during normal patrols.

Unacceptable.

I certainly hope you will come right, that is a bummer.

I found secure storage.

Self Storage - Zwavelpoort. Fully enclosed and lock up with excellent security

I have been trying to sell 2x 3 cyl 30 yammies for a while, quite unsuccessfully I may add. What I have noticed though is that almost all enenquiries are from foreigners (90%). E.g.Malawian and mozambican. I can only deduce from this that there is a healthy demand in those countries. They tried everything to make me part with them or scam me. Even going so far as to make deposits that reversed after 48hrs. Sales of smaller motors are very low as per Yamaha so there are very few available second hand nowadays and 40 hp is the go to motor in Africa. Take suitable precautions to protect yiur property
