South African Skippers License Validity in the USA

Does any one know whether my SAMSA issued South African skippers license (for a power vessel less than 9 meters) would be valid in the USA i.e. kind of like I can use my South African drivers license in the USA to hire and drive a car.

Does any one have any information on this or where to find out whether one has to do anything to legally skipper a boat in the USA (that is covered by your South African skipper's license)?

I found the answer to the question. It looks like it depends what state in the USA you are operating in as per the table on the following site: http://www.nasbla.org/content.asp?contentid=265

I for example want to use a boat in Florida where it looks like if you were born before 1/1/1988, you do not need anything but if born after this date you need to do an educational course, which can be completed online e.g. https://www.boat-ed.com/florida/ (for a fee currently of $29.50).

Even though it is not required for me, I will go ahead and do this online course in any case.
