Hi Johan, you can search here on Sealine for Splash Rock, Lucky Dip, Suicide Rocks and Black Rock as well as the Umntavuma River. Some nice deep water and good spots for spinning around the area.

There are a bunch of posts with some good info. Try find some of the old posts by Cobia, or even shoot him a message.. I'm sure he wouldn't mind. Hope you have some good catches.

Hi Johan
I'm also taking a trip down to the coast(Toti) end of April
Cannot wait.
I remember having lots of fun catching stone bream in the gulleys down south even when the weather was not to good, at least it kept me busy.

Good luck

Hi, Johan
I'm sure the weather will be better than the past couple of days specialy with Dineo passing recently, any weather is better. The thing is with us Valies going down to the coast, we cannot always wait for better days/conditions and have to make the most of our time spent there. April is as good as any other time for me, thats why I mentioned the stone bream. If the weather or conditions are not to good I usualy revert back to catching gully fish with the kids.Had some awsome surprises, with larger fish coming in and taking the bait.

Hi,

I was down at winkelspruit a couple of years ago and went fishing in the night from the rocks. There was a nasty side wash and after an hour or so, I decided to head back home. Not keen to take of my bait I launched it right in front of my feet for the peckers to clean the hook. No peckers seemed to be around and then.... Like a steam train something hit my sardine an ran off. It was a massive stumpnose. I'll see if I can find the pic and load it here.
::tight: and you to enjoy!

Ja I agree I'm a bit closer to the beach than you (only an hour and a bit for me) but certainly dont get down there nearly often enough! This is the first time I'm going in I dont know how long and the first time I actually understand a bit about fishing ((r(e(ling so I'm excited and will really fish through any weather regardless if fish are biting or not haha just would be nice to have something to show for it.

Thats an awesome stumpnose you got :wfish

A bit off topic, but do I need a license for each rod I'm using at a given time or do I only need one? wanting to throw one in and let it sit and play in the waves with another, do you know if I need two?

You only need one license for fishing, not one for each rod.

So my holiday begins this weekend and amongst the excitement it got me thinking about the tides etc
There's a new moon on Wednesday coming and that means a spring tide if I'm not mistaken. My question is does this affect fishing much? My dad always told me its best to fish on a spring high, is this accurate?

I caught and saw all manner of fish in the last few days on neaps so..? :) Without a line in the water you'll catch nothing..Lost a big duckie at my feet on redbait that I though was the mother of all crackers..you just never know..Fish fed on times of the tide and bites went on and off, but..you gotta have a line in the water and use what you got and walk around..the guys who stayed put got nothing, gave up and went home..Seas were big or water was cold or brown..not good times for fish but they have to eat sometime, species change and tactics as the water does. Was trying for cracker but got a 2 PB kolsterte and a mase wilderperd, all that I thought were small crackers they were so big..missed two takes over the days that could only have been proper big fish but that's how it goes. Spring tide can get a feed on but there is more too it. Spring tide can open up spots that you normally could not access but depends on the sea of the day.

Hi Johan and others heading to the South Coast.

Both the Toti and TO Strand areas can produce loads of fish if they are in the mood. It's a strange period of the year as the early winter fish will be arriving in there ones and twos. These would include Cob, Shad, Leeries, Blactail and Karranteen. Less abundant yet still in with a chance to catch a few would be Pompano and the variety of Flat fish. Stumnose and Grunter are caught all year round yet more prolific in the warmer months.

As far as the Sharks R concerned the little Spinners and Greys can provide a bit of fun if all else fails. Way down South, Port Edward to Orange Rocks the Hound Sharks will be arriving also in there ones and twos.

If I was fishing Toti I would target a Stumnose, Pompano, Cob and a Leerie. Good advice would be to get to the Beach or Rocks and do a little homework, then come up with a plan. Winkelspruit is not far from you. Do a homework trip there as well. If you stand on Winkel rocks and you look South u will c Hotel Rocks from there onwards is Ilovu. All are awesome for Leeries and Shad. Who knows they could arrive early????

If I was fishing TO Strand I would target Stumnose, Bronze Bream, Shad and Cob. Don't forget to look at Margate , North of TO! or Port Edward further South of TO!

Not sure what your plans are for bait? If in Toti, then the Tackle store in Warnerdoone would be best. If heading to TO Strand stop in Margate there's a Tackle store in the main road and one just behind the Checkers. The next better tackle store would be in Port Edward. Some of the Spars also sell tackle but very basic stuff.

Bait.....Chokka, Prawn, Red-eye, Mackerel and Sardines. If you have a licence Sealice and Mussels.

Tight Lines.

If you want you can PM me your numbers and I will put you on what's up!! Contact me and I will guide you as much as I can.
