Good evening Fisherman.

Can anybody tell me if:
1 we are allowed to go fishing with our boats?
2 roodeplaat dam open for fishing yet
3 there is a gazetted or other form of publication stating we are allowed to head out to the water again (providing 1, 2 is yes).
4. What is needed to legally go fishing again by boat.

Thank you all and
Safe Tight Lines and fair winds::tight:

Don't know about dam fishing but recreational fishing from boats is open in the Cape. DAFF officials at slipway checking for masks and max number of persons allowed on boat etc (nothing serious).

The stupid rules are no recreational boating/booze cruises only fishing. We are not allowed to drive more than 5km from home except for essential needs. (no slipway is closer than that to me).

The worst thing is the yellowtail does not read the regulations :?

Hi No expert But yes You may go fishing and you may go fishing off your boat.
Only problem is you are not allowed to cross provincial borders without a valid permit stating that you are traveling for a valid reason fishing is not a valid reason. The permit you get from a police station.
You also need a valid fishing license these licenses are for fresh water and are per province(You have always needed one to go fishing not something new) and they may start checking it but in the 40 years I have been fishing I have NEVER been asked for a fresh water fishing license? For gauteng license you can contact outdoorlegendssa on facebook and there is a website for north west called www.nipas.co.za the other provinces I have no idea?

Perfect. Thank you for the info. The permits I have so that is not an issue. All paperwork is sorted. Now just to find a suitable place to launch.

Ok. So I have been to Roodeplaat dam. When I got there it was all locked up. Security told me its closed till further notice due to covid 19...
I told them that both SAMSA and fisheries issued notices that boating and fishing is allowed under social distancing regulations. But apparently SAMSA and fisheries can't open a dam.

I have no idea when they will open again. If anybody have more info on when that would be appreciated.

The fishing resorts on the banks of the dam is open.
The main entrance itself was closed. The one on the Moloto rd. I am not sure if any of the resorts do boat launching there since that was the reason for my visit there.

No worries.
I ended up going to the Vaal. Dam level is very low. I launched in Deneysville. Was my first time on the dam. Much bigger from on the dam then the side of the dam...
