Afternoon All, I am in Canada possible comming to SA in Jan 22 want to know whether I can get one permit for fishing anywhere in the country inland and coast?

Good day

welcome to sealine.

enjoy your stay here, do a search, there are plenty of info on this site.

we have different licenses.
a salt water license allows you to fish the whole south African coast line.
fishing only.

you can get extra permits for bait collecting, crayfish etc. so do take note

inland waters, you will need to get a license from each province you want to fish in.
we have 9 different provinces. so do take note where you want to go fishing.
in the old days fishing licenses were law, it still is, but the enforcement of it is not done daily.

but to be safe, rather get a license for the area you want to fish in.

Thanks Willem,

Should have mentioned that I grew up in SA, used to fish the coastline in Natal and did a little bit of fishing in the Cape. Whats the fishing like in Jan Feb and March? Do you know if I can get the license on line?

Hi Maka,
Welcome back. The above period is our prime time in the Southern and Western Cape for mostly all fish except galjoen and steenbras that prefer colder water.
Where would you like to go fish on our coast. To make it worth your while I would suggest using a guide or 'hookup' with some of the guys on Sealine. We have excellent guides specialising in certain areas of the coast.
