Braid leader plus floro leader.

What's the general feeling amongst the spinning guys with regard to having a length of heavier braid leader before your floro leader and should this heavier leader go on to the reel a few turns or start just outside of the spool ?

I only use flouro leader if the tuna that I'm chunking are being fussy.:)

Braid you can stitch to a heavier leader it works..but a mission..but situation depending very helpful..

Boat or shore spinning, what is the target species and what are you throwing with what main line?

I would definately go with a heavier braid casting leader before the fluoro.
Casting a 2oz on 21lb braid is asking for line cuts. After a few 100 casts, the main braid will show signs of wear as well.
Two/ three turns on the reel is enough.

On my light set up (from the boat) I use 12lb mainline with a 30lb leader. With 30lb main braid and up I don't use a leader until popping for tuna when I use a 100lb on 65lb main line.

maybe a braid leader around the spool can work.

we have found that mono does not work well.
so our trace is just outside the tip.

braid does wear out over time.
so you could just check the first section often.
cut off and retie

Hi there Zach, long time ?

I also agree with the replies you got from fellow SL's thus far.

Besides the good & valid points made, it gives you the peace of mind when whipping that rod's ass for additional distance which is not the case on the main braid for fearing it might snap.

The heavier braid also helps against the bricks ito being heavier & hopefully be more abrasive, & once a turn on the spool it can give a little confidence to pull a bit harder on the fish in the wash should you require.
Changing casting braid leader on the beach is quick & easy.

Second the braid casting leader then a bit of mono/fluoro outside the top eye.

Out of curiosity, what knot do you gents use to attach main line braid to casting leader braid? I tried a few different knots but eventually resettled on an FG, its the only knot that I have tried that does not weaken my mainline at the knot.
