Has anyone been out to the deep in this weather window and caught anything?

Saturday is looking like an absolute pearler of a day.  Any hints on where to go for Longfin or the yellows?

My mates are out at the moment for a 3 day trip. They got 2 yellows and a handful of longies.

Spoke to them last night on the cavicom, and apparently there isnt much good water out there and they had to steam around a bit. I think the got the fish more to the south.

Going to call again tonight and get an update...

Hi Skippy,

I will fuel boat up today and practice my tying of the double figure 8 knot tonight.... Really battling with that one. Must go vist Reefman I think.......I am keen to go Friday or Saturday....depending on Deckers interest in abandoning his new baby....I hope we get to wrestle with a yelo or two.....Cant wait!!!

Hey Marine69 is that Beluga Lee you were on the kavicom too?

Yesterday was awful for the boats with most seasoned anglers returning empty.
I had heard that the two yellows were on the 33 and 03 area around 270 off the point.

The canyon area was green and did not produce a single noteworthy fish.

I battled to dial the kavicom from home last night, so I could not chat to them.

I called today off because of the poor reports I got from the guys who were out. Nice day though so hopefully it was better. The guys will still on parachute yesterday and fishing was not easy.

Not good fishing out there at all at the moment. Maybe by the weekend it will swing, who knows.

The weather for Saturday is getting better and better.
There is 20c water with small pockets of 21c about 120 miles south of Agulhas. Will that be moving up at 6 knots in the current? Any news even "no catches" from the deep?

Yeah HT, was chatting to them out there. They returned last night after not getting anything for the day yesterday.

Sounds like its not too hot out there at the moment which isnt good for the weekenders or for you Skippy...And its a pity cos the the weather is good for a trip out this weekend.

But then i guess you not going to catch anything sitting at home either.

@ HT, comms seemed a bit sketchy out there bru, but u missed nothing yesterday. Tried to call u on 71 yesterday but figured u gave it a miss due to the reports. Water was perfect blue but temps sucked, we got up to about 17degrees and that was it. We were all ova the show and even the deck boats returned empty yesterday. We were lucky to pick up the 2 yellows(at least i got stretched), one of around 75 and the other a couple kilos lighter. I landed the first one and straight after stripped my next bait and `FISH ON`!
I got 2 in a row and the hook pulled on my 3rd fish...game over and the tears flowed...
Picked longies up on the backline, made a turn and dropped the poles...saw a few fish on the surface but would not touch the bait or the kawalle! Must say that there are plenty signs so something needs to give... i reckon saturday will be good if the warmer water gets found, got someone out today and should have a report just now, hold thumbs!

As I type, Whale Rider is trolling home - EMPTY!!!

BUT, those fish have to feed and they may as well feed around VIXEN tomorrow.
My gut says go to the deep, so I'm going!

hmmmmmm, HT got a gut feeling...... How good are you guts HT? We are also terrible undecided BUT I have a funny feeling that tomorrow could be the day.....Would HATE to read reports on Sunday about the Yelo friends going off. Does anybody know anything about Tail, water temp and colour at at the point? Perhaps that might be an option to look for some tail. HT: What time will you leave the harbour? Perhaps if we see you going out, we might be encouraged to join the "long way down" Will see what sealine dishes up later....

I AM going. No indecision there and I'm going straight out, no stops. Well if everything runs properly on board.
There are a few boats that have returned with yellows, these guys would not give me their marks, so don't ask. I just know that they have had consistent fish since Wednesday and are out again today. I do know you need to stay until sunset for the late feed.

So go out there and work work work.

There are tail at the point, at least there were on Wednesday in good numbers but were playing their usual. Oh look at that nice shiny metal thing. Lets nudge it, bump it but whatever we do, DON'T SWALLOW!

If you waiting for someone to yell they bliksemed the fish I wouldn't hold my breath.
Like anything, the fish have to feed and you can't catch them if you not there.

Good luck and tight lines.
Hope you guys get stretched.

.......................:temp:......................

Too say I am amped, is an understatement!!!!

12 days of stressed businees travel  in London and Sweden is gonna be washed away by the sweet sound of Vixen's Yamaha's, HT's incessent morning whistling,( daa da daaa da da daaa da da daaa)  the clicker of Tiagra's, the sound of braid ripping off a Stella, and of course by the blood of tuna on the decks!!!

Hi Catch 22,

Check under the thread "Saturday Tuna Hunt".

I reckon you had more success in Mosselbay than most boats out in the deep last Sturday! Or at the Point, for that matter!

Nonetheless, it was a great day on the water, and it sure beat staying home and working in the garden!
