Ok, this morning I gave SABAA a call to find out about the membership, but I didn't really get the info I wanted, I got refered a email that I must send to to get info on a club that automatically joins me with SABAA.

Ok well my thing is, I wanna join a club, that gives me benifits like:

- Fishing competitions

- Get a gift package, and signage eg; badge,T-shirt, stickers etc

- Discounted on selected dams

- Invited to events

- And able to claim a record (which is not to important but hey I wouldn't mind claiming a new record with a little luck)

Any suggestions contacts etc would be gladly appreciated.

Will also give him a call, Ive been suggested via PM about BFSA and Elgin club, I think the BFSA sounds good.

I really dont wanna just join to say I am part of a bass club, there are so many politics etc, and snobs. I wanna join a friendly club with awesome members etc.

Thanks guys for the info.

Guy's

I would like to make a few comments about Club selection, I use to Manage Divisions, Provinces and Clubs for a very long time. I have seen many a new angler paying his club fees and then been dissapointed as to what the Club have to offer.

I would like to suggest that you decide exactly what you are looking for in a Club, and I see Ian you have a pretty good idea of what you are looking for. Don't rush into a club, go and attend multiple meetings at the Club to determine if you like the people as well as the Club. Make 100% sure you understand how the Club operates and what the structures of the club look like. In my experience I have found that most of the time a Club either have "Social anglers" or "Divisional anglers" dominating the Club (Social anglers being people that only fish Club Comps). The Club will tilt towards who dominates, if Divisional anglers dominate they will prodominantly cater for Divisional anglers and the mood in the Club will be very competitive and learning from Senior anglers becomes a mission as they are to focused on making their Provincial Team.

If Social anglers dominate their focus will be around Club comps and making it sociable for everybody to attend and enjoy the outing. This is probably the environment where you will learn the most and good anglers will not mind teaching you and putting you on the fish. Remember not all GOOD anglers fish Divisionals, in the Cape you might find a few Protea anglers now focusing on teaching and coaching their kids. Remember to be a member of a Club and SABAA ultimately is expensive because you have to pay Cash before you cast a line. Below I will list a few charactirestics of, in my opinion, a good and well organised Club:

  • They will have a Club comp every month[/*]
  • They will at all times encourage people to attend Club comps[/*]
  • They will welcome you and assign a mentor to a new member[/*]
  • They will cater for a Family membership[/*]
  • The will treat all angler equal[/*]
  • They will have a minimum requirement to attend meetings and club comps[/*]
  • They will have access to good waters[/*]
  • Meetings will be structured and well organised[/*]
  • They will have a good constitution in place[/*]
  • They will cater for Junior and Lady anglers
[/*]
My 2c worth!
