Fighting Monsters from the shore

Hello fellow anglers

What do you do when you hook a monster that's peeling your line at a hectic speed? Is there any tips that you can share with? I'm also fishing with braid.
How do you reel in braid cause I know it can cut your fingers?

You reel in carefully and make sure you have a safari cooler to put all your severed fingers in.

Hi

From my limited knowledge, if he is peeling line you have to let him go .... until he turns and then you reel him in ... I have seen some guys slowly tighten their drag but this can cause you to sometimes lose the fish ...

Anyways, there is alot of guys here that can help ...

let him go brother let him go !!! It's hard to stop and turn a monster...... when he does then you take advantage of that !!

dont ever loosen your drag , I lost 2 very good fish by thinking I am a hero and will play a bit.The smaller your drum gets the harder it will be for him to take drag.Big fish will notmally tear off line at a rate of knots I think mostly to get away from the scene and other sharks and then when he feels the drag.They tire rather quickly unless very big.Always keep your pressure on him constant.

A lot has been said on this forum re braid cutting fingers etc. I have used braid as mainline for the past couple of months and I know of other anglers that have been using it for years as their mainline. Now, after hundreds of casts and a fair amount of fish caught, I yet have to cut myself and have never heard of anybody else being cut either.

So I would like to know: How do you cut yourself with braid? What is the scenario that would cause this? If anyone has had a personal experience please let us know on this forum.

I guess I am one of the lucky ones. Have been using braid for a couple of years now and have yet to cut a finger. A burn or two yes but no cuts.

There are no hard and fast rules when fighting a monster fish.........just know that you need to lose a sh1t load of fish before you will start landing them!!
You need to think about what the fish is doing what you are doing and where you wnat the fish to go!! There are far to many intricate things going on during a fight to write down.........its a feel!! You can immediatly see someone on the beach who is comfortable and relaxed fighting a big fish as opposed to someone who is hanging on for dear life eyes closed with very little or no clue!!

I have never been cut by my braid nor do i ever think about it!!!

Thanks for the info. There is one other question I like answered. How do I make a Shark throw trace with full steel? I tried making a trace last night but my knots were not small enough & I am still getting a kink on the steel. I was using the snell knot on hooks & F8 on swivels. Snell knot is easy but does the F8 need to be as tight as possible. Cause my F8 doesn't get that small & I can slide it up & down to the hook but doesn't come loose. Is that the right way? Does F8 tighten up when fighting a fish? Can you fellow anglers help me out? Maybe a diagram or instructions.

All info will be much app.

Tying teh FIG8 starting out is not all that easy on steel.The reason why you get a kink is because you are bending the steel that is through the eye of the hook.

You should make the fig8 fairly tight , make sure not to put tension on the bit through the eye , hook your hook onto something ( not your wifes ears ) slide the f8 up to the eye using your fingers , once it is up to your hook pull it tight , grab the short bit and while pulling the steel going to your swiwel pull on the small piece.

The main thing is dont pull on the steel before the f8 is set up against the eye of the hook.

Once you got is it is very easy.

Very imprtant to tie the knot by applying a lot of pressure as to lock the knot.It is no good sliding up and down your line.

thanx a lot for that pics, man. im all new to this sliding thing and very eager to make it work properly and see if i can get that big fishy from the pond!
