I have heard many similar stories, the reason for asking was that a freind of mine says he has been fishing with 2 rods for years and he said he asked the officials and they said there was no law prohibiting it.

The SA regulations is as follow:
The holder of a recreational fishing permit, endorsed for angling, is entitled to catch fish of the Class Pisces (i.e. bony fish, sharks, rays,
skates and chimaeras) only with a rod, reel and line, to which no more than 10 hooks are attached. Specific angling regulations are listed
below in sub-regulations 9 and 10.

Does this mean you are not allowed more than one rod?

Nope I have not but a friend of mine was fined some few years ago .They were 4 guy's fishing and had 5 rods in the water . When the officials arrived . They then gave him a R100 fine and confiscated his rod and reel . That they returned asap after paying the fine

Hi,
Thank you for your interesting article. What I want to know is, how many fish can I bring into South Africa on that import document that I obtain from Agriculture and Fisheries, and does every angler need to have an import permit or is 1 permit enough per vehicle. R550 is a lot of money to be paid by every angler just to get a few fish back into the country.

Thanx Koper,

Groete
Dana

Dana

Daar is egter goeie nuus.

Shad here is a very lucky catch, it all depends on the wind and how close to shore it pushes the warm current, only then are we lucky to get shad and garrick.

The sandbank at the light tower in Walvis or the sand bank at mile 6 is were they are usually caught.
