I completely skunked today
Launched at 04h00 into an ugly sea, went to Umhloti when it got somewhat big, and so ran with a following sea almost to Toti, water was green down south, tried to get out deep but by the time I got to the 300 the sea was huge, came back in and ran North along the 200 until Umhloti and then came in just in time at 16h25 to miss the SW buster that came through at 16h30 which was pumping at 65km/hr plus.
Water was green everywhere, no life in the water. A very frustrating day, 12hrs 160km's and niks nada nothing

What an awesome day today, nice flat seas, warm blue water with lots of life, plenty sprats and flying fish.

It was 29 deg.C when I got to Fat Girl at 04h00, and its a stinking hot day now.

Had a short 5hr charter to day with a bunch of boys and some parents.

We dropped 2 Dorado and 1 Yellowfin, and we landed 1 Dorado and 9 Yellowfin today.
So 10 fish in total, not bad for a 5hr trip.

We have added a new and epic trip into our line-up this year

Giant Tuna / Blue Marlin - (March - May)

This is a very long and deep trip with a long travel time to the destination, conditions will play a very important role on this trip, on this trip we specifically target the very large Yellowfin Tuna and Blue Marlin that are around in the deep waters up North. We depart at 02h00 on this trip and can expect to be back in port by 22h00. Travel time to and from the area fish is 4hrs each way.

This is a serious fishing trip, we target very large fish which will test your very soul in the fight, and are out at sea for a very long time and can encounter some rough water. Not recommended for first timers.

This is an 18hr trip, best for 4 persons although the boat can comfortable take 8 anglers.

Are you planning on leaving Durban, fishing in Richards Bay and returning to Durban again? Wouldn't it be better to leave Richards Bay harbour?

No, not quite Richards Bay, the distance to these productive grounds is similar distance from Durban or from Richards Bay. And no I am not giving you the marks :fbash

I don't believe you - LOL

To catch tuna like that, you need to go to Richards Bay.

BTW, I know exactly where you got that tuna... The guy who fished with you is a charter skipper, I know him well! ;)

Looks like I will be doing a Fishing College course for the whole upcoming week on another boat, and with the weather forecast for next week looks like 5 awesome days on the water

Today’s trip has been postponed several times due to weather, and finally today we were able to get out there.

We launched at around 04h00 and made our way out to sea, there was a light SW wind blowing. By the time we were 7Nm out the wind had changed to a NE and the sea got a little choppy, as the day progressed the sea flattened out nicely.

First thing in the morning we had a double hook up with some Kawa-Kawa, and not very long after we hooked an Oceanic Bonito, the sea was a gorgeous purple and we found some nice water at 26.6deg.C for a while nothing happened even though the water looked so great, and then we saw some birds and wham bang, we hooked up the biggest Oceanic Bonito I have ever seen, and definitely a new record weighing in at a whopping 10Kg (22lbs), this fish was so fat and round I was truly amazed. It was not long after that when we hooked up a nice Dorado weighing in at 8.5Kg (19lbs).
On the way back to port we had a triple hook up with Yellowfin Tuna, the line broke on one fish, and we landed another 2 at around 4Kg (9lbs) each.

Was out today for over 12hrs on Nauticat doing a fishing college course, sea was pretty flat most of the day starting with a SW and some rain, then moving to a SW and finally a NE for the afternoon.

We mangaged to land 3 Dorado and dropped one Yellowfin Tuna, which dropped the lure and then cam back to pick it up. The 3rd Dorado was also interesting as is hit both riggers and the shotgun before finally comitting to the RH corner, and we all saw it happing as its dorsal fin was out the water.

Deeper out the water was 25.4-25.9deg.C but there was a very strong S-N current for most the day and virtually no sparats or flying fish around, I noticed and lot of activity on the sounder at about 300m deep when were running along the 400m contour, and saw fish there down deep, think they were feeding on the prawns and we could not raise them.

On the way back in we hooked up into a Brown Marlin who took our lure on the shot gun. At first I thought we had a Marlin on as after the reel went mad, I turned around and saw a massive splash on the water and very quickly around 400m of line was out and the reel was still spooling, eventually we managed to hold him for a while and slowley began to gain line, and so a the fight continued for about 30min, when the fish went deep and after another 10 min we managed to start raising the fish, when he saw the boat he ran again and after a few times of this happening we started gaining control..
Eventually after about an hour I was able to grab hold of the leader and too my surprise, the was a 200Kg plus Zambezi Shark (Bull Shark) at the end of our Kona. It fought just like a Marlin and took a lot of line fast, and even did a jump which I missed only to see the splash. I was about to hold him by the jaws with the gaff to remove the hook when the 7/0 mustad SS Big game hook snapped.

When I first realised it was a Shark, my first thoughts were Mako or maybe Blacktip, I was astonished once I saw it clearly as this was definately a very very large Zambezi.
